Good morning and welcome to day five of the second Test between India and South Africa in Bangalore. We had some good news: only the wicket is covered this morning. However, just as I was typing that out, a slight drizzle in Bangalore spurred the ground staff to bring out the covers. Their body language didn't suggest any bit of urgency, so we're hoping it clears off at some point.
Only patches around the square were damp, which could be a cause of concern for the umpires. Despite a heavy cloud cover, rain stayed away for most bits last night, barring slight drizzles. Fingers crossed we get some game time in.
Inspection at 10 am local time.
Now, it has been three days since we've gotten any play in this Test. So in case you have forgotten as to what happened on day one, we'll take you through a quick recap.
India won the toss and opted to bowl in AB de Villiers's 100th Test. None of the South African batsmen really got going, barring de Villiers and Dean Elgar. He scored a stellar 85 to take his team to 214 before they were bowled out. R Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja were the chief destroyers with four wickets each.
The Indian openers got off to a great start and South Africa seemed like they sorely missed their usual frontline seamers - Dale Steyn and Vernon Philander - who both missed out due to injuries. However, it didn't seem to matter too much after as the game was uninterrupted by an unwelcome visitor. The intruder has refused to leave since with the next three days being washed out.
