PLAYER OF THE MATCH
That's it from our side. We are off to a rollicking start to the season. Join us tomorrow for the high-octane clash between Brisbane Heat and Melbourne Renegades. Until next time, goodbye and take care!
Cooper Connolly | Hero of the Match: You are not quite sure what's going to happen in such games. You go out there trying to play some high-action cricket and it's good to come out on top. (On some of the new shots he has developed) Did not need it tonight, might come out later (in the competition). Good start for us but plenty of cricket to be played. I should have been there at the end. At least we got a win and I'm happy for the team.
19:27 Local Time, 11:27 GMT, 16:57 IST: A comfortable victory for Scorchers to kick off their campaign in style! The rain took away a considerable amount of time from the game and the contest was curtailed to 11 overs per side. The hosts won a crucial toss and put Sixers into bat. The visitors couldn't quite get going with the bat but a 21-ball 46 from Edwards in the later half of the innings took them to a decent score. In response, Marsh was dismissed for a duck but Allen and Hardie hit a few lusty blows to provide some momentum to their side before departing. Connolly came in to bat at No. 3 and played fluently from the word-go. His ball-striking was supreme as he struck the ball to different parts of the ground and took the match away from the Sixers. The young man raised a 24-ball fifty before holing out in the deep soon after. Connolly's blazing knock ensured that Scorchers finished the game with 5 balls to spare...
