Australia were the last team to feature in this World Cup and despite no Mitch Marsh today, they made easy work of Ireland. That's it from this game. Travis Head | Australia stand-in captain: "Feel like we have been here for a while. Yeah, nice start. Obviously, it's nice to get into the tournament, I thought everyone played really, really well, so positive note. (what went well today?) Probably a combination of both. I thought Renners and Stoin's partnership in the middle was really, really rock-solid. Kept the rate going, got us to a really, really good score, and then the way that Nel and Zamps bowled throughout the second innings was exceptional. So, it's what we need from them too, them two are probably our leaders of our attack. So, for them to stand up tonight was an exciting start for us. (on the discussions as a batting group to the conditions here) Yeah, they seemed tough and then it might look different in two days' time. So, we talked about problem-solving and adapting on the go, and we want to keep that intent, we are obviously been an aggressive team over the last couple of years. We want to try and keep that rate. I thought we did that really well in different ways today. I felt Renn hit a lot of twos in that back-end until we got to the death. And the boys were able to finish off and get us to a really good score. So, it's obviously attacking hard throughout the whole way, but that may look different in different conditions. So, let's see what we get in a couple of days' time and adapt and continue on. (on managing expectations) There's always expectation. I think there's a lot of teams going with expectations. So, that's the challenge of like we said at the toss. That's the challenge of tournament play. You get in there in high-pressure situations and navigate yourself the way through it. So, nice to get our first win. That's always a nice starting point. And work our way through the next three and then get ourselves to India. And that creates more challenges and different challenges. So, we'll get our mindset, it's a relaxed group, it's a fun group to be around. We're enjoying each other's company and look to continue to play good cricket. (on having all fit) It'd be nice. It'd be nice to get a couple more fit over the next few days. So, trending that way. So, you're not going to win the World Cup right now, but it'd be nice to get the boys purring by the time we get to the business end of it."

Lorcan Tucker comes in to talk for the injured Stirling: (on Stirling) "Yeah, I think he just took a bit of a knock on his knee taking that catch in the first innings. Pretty unfortunate to lose him like that. I know he was obviously brave and tried to go out and see the second innings off to a good start, but he wasn't able to unfortunately. So hopefully we can get that right for the next game. (Stirling was a big miss in the chase?) Yeah, obviously massively disappointing I think. He's had so much success there at the top of the order for us previously. So disappointing and then I think after that, it seemed to set a bit of a train in motion. (on their performance today) Yeah, I think it was great that we had seen the game the other day, we felt like we talked about the surface, we had good experience of it I suppose unlike Australia. I think we probably didn't start as well as we would have liked. Feel like they got away from us a bit in the powerplay. I think our spinners made a great effort to try and pull it back in the middle but ultimately they finished the game off really well. Credit to their own experience. We lost wickets in our own powerplay and got off to a pretty poor start. I think George really tried to battle and bring us back into the game, it wasn't enough in the end. But that's the way these things happen sometimes. (what numbers did you think were good here?) I think maybe 150-160 was in our mind, as something that was gettable. I think the way we set up, we feel like we could target that. They probably got a few more than that, but it was just credit to the way they played. They managed the middle period really well against our spinners. Our spinners bowled well but they controlled the game really nicely and set them up to be able to get a bigger score than maybe the par total. (how to gee up the guys after today?) It's tournament cricket. There's plenty of things happening. We saw today, there was a couple of Super Overs in the game in one of the other groups. So there's still plenty that can happen. I think we just got to stay competitive, stay keen and we're not out of this yet. Yeah, so I think we just have to make sure we train well, rock up for the next game and really put in a positive performance."

Nathan Ellis | Player of the Match: (on the surface here) "No, it's probably more the unknown of what you're gonna get. I've been here a few times now and can be a mixed bag at times, watching some of the games at this tournament at this stadium pre our game today. You sort of showed a lot of spin through the middle on some slower wickets. And sort of knew a little bit coming in, but for me, it's just trying to adapt on the fly and just wanted to get started. It's been a long run-in for us now and I've had some time off back home. So I was keen to get the first one away. (more responsibility on your shoulders with the big boys out) Yeah, I mean, bringing the average height down a fair way, that's for sure. I mean, we've said it a lot now leading into this, we actually haven't seen a lot of the big boys in the bilateral series in the last 18 months. So we have had the likes of Dwarshius, Bartlett, Sean Abbott and even some of the younger guys in the recent series against Pakistan. So we've played together a fair bit now and you know, I think the planning and the processes in the last eighteen months leading to this has put us in good stead to go deep hopefully without, without the likes of the big boys. (on his back-of-the hand slower-ball) Probably after watching the first couple of overs, I saw the swing king - Xavier Bartlett start up and there wasn't a lot of swing or seam there for him. So it sort of dictates what my overs in the back-end of the powerplay and through the middle looks like. Yeah, sort of trying to just see what I can see from deep square and try and put my best foot forward. (a 22% difference in the pace between his dismissals of Ross Adair and Campher) Yeah, and I think for me being a little bit shorter and a little bit skiddier, especially on these wickets when I do go pace-on, I just try to hit the wicket as hard as I can and, and try and bowl as fast as I can. So, as much as I can keep my arm speed similar and then hopefully the ball speed, as big a difference as I can, I'm hopefully, you know, giving myself a little bit of margin of error. (on Zampa) Yeah, it's one of those ones with Zorby, he sort of does that when we walk off, and go, it's just another day. You know, I think if you sit back and really think about it, we really don't want to take him for granted, because he's one of the world's best, but yeah, he's just our Adam. So yeah, another, another great outing for him tonight, but I mean, I can't go without mentioning that middle order partnership to get us to a total today. I had my pads on a little bit earlier than I would've liked to. It would've been hard for me to score a few runs out there. So with Renners, the experienced Renners and Stoin to put on a partnership like that, got us to a total that we could apply some pressure in the powerplay."

18:29 Local Time, 12:59 GMT, 18:29 IST: A straightforward win for Australia and they've started their campaign on a confident note. Chasing down 183 at the Premadasa isn't easy by any stretch and Ireland were left without captain - Paul Stirling - who seemed to have aggravated an earlier injury on the field. They were then opened up by Nathan Ellis and Matthew Kuhnemann as they slipped to 27 for 4 in no time. It was then a mere formality even as Lorcan Tucker (24) and George Dockrell (41) showed some fight. But both came unstuck in front of Adam Zampa and Ireland eventually crashed to 115 all-out, slipping to their second straight loss. Four wickets each for Ellis and Zampa as the Australians enjoyed an easy day in the field. Earlier, their total of 182 was built around solid contributions from the top-order before Stoinis's 29-ball 45 provided the final impetus. Stay tuned for the post-match stuff...
