Ashwin seals No. 2 spot for RR

An important six from Ashwin off Mukesh brings down the equation to seven off the last over. He strikes a four off Pathirana and takes a single to bring down the equation 1 off 3. In an anti-climax, the bowler bowls a wide as RR win by five wickets to finish second on the points table.

Solanki strikes again

Hetmyer starts the 17th over with a four but falls the very next delivery, miscuing an attempted big hit. Ashwin ends the over with a six. Short deliveries from Pathirana are struck for a four each by Parag and Ashwin. RR need 19 more from 12.

Jaiswal falls after fifty

Ashwin breaks the shackles with a six over midwicket off Moeen. Jaiswal, having reached his fifty in the 14th over, clobbers a six off Solanki in the 15th but he falls in the same over, pulling it straight to Pathirana at backward square leg. Moeen concedes only four in the 16th over to finish with 1 for 21. RR are 108/4, needing 43 more off 24.

Moeen gets Padikkal

The left-hander struggled to get going and was eventually out for a 9-ball 3, bowled after missing a slog-sweep off Moeen. RR are 80/3 after 12 overs. In terms of boundaries scored, it has been a similar progression compared to the first innings, with RR not managing any boundary off the bat since one in the seventh over.

Conway, Moeen get going

Conway top-edges a six over fine-leg while attempting a pull of Boult, and whips one to the leg side for a four in the third over that yields 12 runs. Moeen pulls and makes room to punch past mid-off for two fours, which is followed by a well-timed pull for a six and then strikes a four past the bowler. 18 off the fourth over as CSK move to 33/1.

Boult removes Gaikwad early

A wicket in the first over for Boult and it's the third time in four innings that he has dismissed Gaikwad. The opening batter looks to go after a delivery outside off bu gets an edge and gives Samson a simple catch. Moeen Ali has struggled a bit against Prasidh, playing and missing a couple of times outside off.

Dhoni on his future with CSK:"Definitely (will play). It's a simple reason - it will be unfair to not play in Chennai and say thank you. Mumbai is one place, where as a team and as an individual I have got a lot of love and affection. But it wouldn't be nice to the CSK fans. And also, hopefully next year there will be an opportunity where the teams will be travelling so it will be a like thank you to all the different places where we will be playing games at different venues. Whether it will be my last year or not that's a big question because you know we can't really predict about something two years down the line, but definitely I'll be working hard to come back strong next year."

Toss and teams:

MS Dhoni wins the toss and CSK will bat first. Both teams make one change each. Ambati Rayudu replaces Shivam Dube while Shimron Hetmyer is back in the RR eleven in place of James Neesham.

Chennai Super Kings (Playing XI): Ruturaj Gaikwad, Devon Conway, Moeen Ali, Ambati Rayudu, N Jagadeesan, MS Dhoni (c & wk), Mitchell Santner, Prashant Solanki, Simarjeet Singh, Matheesha Pathirana, Mukesh Choudhary

Rajasthan Royals (Playing XI): Yashasvi Jaiswal, Jos Buttler, Sanju Samson (c & wk), Devdutt Padikkal, Shimron Hetmyer, Riyan Parag, Ravichandran Ashwin, Trent Boult, Prasidh Krishna, Yuzvendra Chahal, Obed McCoy

Build-up

A second-placed finish which gives two direct shots at making the final is the carrot dangling in front of the Royals in their last league game. Considering their NRR, which is +0.304 they have one foot in the playoffs but they'll be eager to set up a date against Gujarat Titans in Qualifier 1. For CSK, a victory will ensure that they do not end up as the last team and they'll be hoping to sign off their disappointing campaign with a victory.

This is the final match at Brabourne this season. RR have won both their previous games here while CSK have lost both of theirs. Brabourne has also been the best venue for batting teams and spinners this season with the average first innings score being 179. The spinners have also returned 69 wickets, averaging 21.81.
