Sanju Samson cracked a ton on his captainct debut © BCCI/IPL
PUNJAB KINGS WIN: Needing 5 off the last two balls, Sanju Samson declined a single, which as later found out, could have been an easy two. Off the last ball, looking to hit Arshdeep Singh over the boundary ropes on the offside, he ended up holing out to the fielder at long off. The decision to decline the run, in the end, proved counter-productive as Punjab Kings got their IPL campaign started with a 4-run win.
CENTURY: Sanju Samson has made Punjab pay for their dropped catches. He has unleashed his full range of strokes to bring up a fine hundred - his third in IPL - to take Rajasthan Royals closer to victory.
Riyan Parag is playing a handy cameo here. He has hit the ball all over the park and along with Sanju Samson put on an 18-ball half-century stand.
FIFTY Sanju Samson has taken complete advantage of the dropped catches to bring up his fifty to lead Rajasthan Royals chase. It has been a good day with the bat for the captains.
Another drop! This time Shahrukh Khan and Mayank Agarwal are the culprits in the miscommunication. Sanju Samson gets away again.
WICKET Jos Buttler has been foxed by an interesting slower delivery from Jhye Richardson. The batsman yorks himself and is cleaned up. Big wicket! 70/3 in 7.3 overs
Riley Meredith isn't having a good start to IPL. Jos Buttler welcomes him with four consecutive boundaries.
DROPPEDKL Rahul has put down an easy catch behind the stumps. Sanju Samson gets a life on 12. Second drop of the innings for Punjab.
EARLY STRIKE Mohammed Shami has struck in the first over. Looking to swipe the bowler across, Ben Stokes gets a top edge. Three fielders converge to take the catch, collide but take it in the end.
Chetan Sakariya bowled a fine final over, using his slower balls well, but Punjab Kings finished with 221 for 6. He returned figures of 3 for 31 on his debut, apart from taking a sensational catch. A wonderful start for him. But can Rajasthan Royals chase down the massive total? They did that last year courtesy a Rahul Tewatia classic but can they repeat it?
WICKET Nicholas Pooran fails to time a pull and Chetan Sakariya takes a superb diving catch at fine leg to dismiss the southpaw. Two wickets in an over for Chris Morris. 201/4 in 18 overs
Deepu says: 2000 runs for KL Rahul for KXIP in IPL. He is the second player to do so after Shaun Marsh (2477 runs).
WICKET Much needed dismissal for Rajasthan Royals. Looking to hit another delivery out of the ground, Deepak Hooda skies it high in the air for Riyan Parag to take an easy catch. 194/3 in 17.3 overs.
FIFTY Deepak Hooda has powered away to a 20-ball half-century. In doing so, he has broken his own record of the second-fastest IPL fifty by an uncapped India. Punjab Kings look well on course for a 200-plus total.
