That's all from us folks! England take the series 2-0. Until next time then ...
Hello and welcome to the live blog of the third and final ODI between England and Sri Lanka in Bristol. Before we get going, here's something from Rob Johnston ahead of the contest -
Sri Lanka's last stay in Bristol was an unhappy one. During the 2019 World Cup, both their games there were washed out without a ball being bowled and they complained to the ICC about the green pitches and that their hotel in the city lacked a swimming pool for the players to recover in. It is fair to see they were not sorry to leave Bristol during that tournament. They probably won't be that happy to be back.
Firstly, more rain is forecast for the third and final ODI of the series against England on Sunday (July 4) at the County Ground while Sri Lanka are in strife, having comfortably lost all five of their matches on this tour so far. They have a young, inexperienced team who have had their limitations ruthlessly exposed by England, and it would be no surprise if they already have one eye on the plane home. It will take a gargantuan effort from the tourists to prevent a 3-0 series defeat.
After the hosts' comprehensive eight-wicket win at The Oval on Thursday, Eoin Morgan hinted that the final game of the series offered an opportunity for England to rotate their squad. Three ODIs and three T20Is against Pakistan follow this series, which is likely to be a more difficult challenge than Sri Lanka have presented, and England will want all their main players fit and fresh for those matches.
It could mean a debut for young Sussex left-armer George Garton. The 24-year-old is still raw but has been on England's radar since the 2017/18 Ashes series when he was briefly called-up to the squad to cover for injuries. He has pace and in one-day cricket is proficient in all phases of the game, with the new ball, through the middle and at the death. Garton is also a very capable lower-order hitter and an excellent fielder, and has been in good form for Sussex during the Vitality T20 Blast.
Liam Dawson is another player who could get a look in. The left-arm spinner is highly regarded by Morgan and was part of England's 2019 World Cup squad. He suffered a bad Achilles injury last summer which ruled him out of the winter series in India but as soon as he was fit again, England called him up at the expense of young Lancashire leg-spinner Matt Parkinson who had been with the squad all winter. Dawson clearly remains England's third spinner, then, behind Adil Rashid and Moeen Ali, and looks set to be part of the T20 World Cup squad later this year.
With the series already won, having the opportunity to rotate the squad is a luxury for England. Sri Lanka would dearly love to be in a similar position. Instead, they are in fire fighting mode. Their tour to England has been a calamitous one, both on and off the pitch, and they face the ignominy of a clean sweep at Bristol, a place they have bad memories of, unless they can find a performance of note from somewhere. Given all that has gone before, that would be a surprise.
