NEW ZEALAND PICK UP A FOUR-WICKET WIN!New Zealand will be relieved to get over the line after that brief period of a scare where they lost 3 for 21. Santner's six and four eased the pressure off of them as New Zealand crossed the line with four wickets to spare. Ross Taylor led New Zealand beautifully with a spectacular century, unbeaten on 109 off 84 balls, to keep them in the chase. He, along with skipper Latham, shared a 138-run stand off just 79 balls to alter the course of the game as New Zealand's once required run rate of over 8, came down to below a run a ball. Latham departed for 69, but Taylor saw them through in the end.

That, after Henry Nicholls and Guptill provided them a steady start upfront with wickets intact. New Zealand will be relieved to have finally crossed the line after throwing away games in the T20I series. Earlier, Shreyas Iyer got his maiden ODI ton and with Kohli and Rahul helped India pile on the runs. Rahul played brilliantly for his unbeaten 88, but it wasn't enough as a Taylor special stole the show.

Good morning and welcome to the first ODI between New Zealand and India. Virat Kohli did reveal on the eve of the match that Prithvi Shaw would be making his ODI debut in Hamilton, pairing up with Mayank Agarwal at the top in Rohit Sharma's absence, with the pair making their respective ODI debuts.

New Zealand, meanwhile, will be playing their first ODI since July 14 of last year after the heart-breaking World Cup final. In that same time-frame, India have played 9. But it will be without their regular skipper Kane Williamson who has been ruled out with a shoulder injury. New Zealand were dealt a blow in the lead-up to the three-match series, with Williamson ruled out for the first two games. Tom Latham will lead the side in his absence, with Mark Chapman named as his replacement.

After conceding the T20I series 0-5 in a one-of-a-kind whitewash, New Zealand will hope to make amends in the first ODI of the series. Although ODIs are New Zealand's stronger suit, it still will be quite a challenge to knock India off, whose confidence is at a high after that whitewash to kickstart their tour.
