Prelude:

After a one-sided Test series, Pakistan and South Africa had a kind of role reversal in the first ODI. The visitors drew first blood and will aim to carry forward the momentum going into Durban. There were indebted to Imam-ul-Haq and Hafeez, who played vital knocks, especially the latter for staying till the end ensuring Pakistan crossed the finish the line to take an early lead in the five-match series.

The defeat sounded warning bells for the hosts; despite Amla's unbeaten ton and a brilliant 93 on debut from Rassie van der Dussen, South Africa underwhelmed posting a below-par total on a tricky surface. The bowlers did try their best to drag the match till the 50th over, but clearly, they were 10-15 runs short. It's a new day, a new pitch. Expect Proteas to put in a better show.
