INDIA CLINCH SERIES 4-1
INDIA CLINCH SERIES 4-1
It's all over! Kedar Jadhav and Manish Pandey embrace on the field, the rest of the Indian squad in the dugout as the five-match ODI series comes to a close with 4-1 in the hosts' favour. This win is down to yet another botched up batting show from Australia, particularly after the sort of the start they got. Once Rohit Sharma got going (after a protracted struggle at the start), there was only one way this fixture was headed. Australia didn't have enough score on the board to make anything of Adam Zampa's late double strike that denied Rohit and Virat Kohli the glory of finishing off the series. Australia should've done a lot better than they did in the series, particularly in Kolkata and Indore. But that's just how the series progressed and in the end, they finished as the second-best side in the series. India should be delighted with their results - and with the performances of the likes of Ajinkya Rahane, Hardik Pandya and their death bowling duo Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Jasprit Bumrah. World Cup 2019 is still a long way to go, but this series forms as a good enough base for India to build on. That's all from us, good night!
Virat Kohli falls
Adam Zampa has picked two big wickets, but the strikes have come rather belatedly. Kohli went for glory and hit one down the throat of the long off fielder. India 227 for 3 in 39.4 overs
Adam Zampa has struck
A standing ovation for Rohit Sharma, who departs for 125 off 109 balls. He looks dejected but there's recognition from the opposition - probably the highest form of praise. He's done his job here as India are not very far away from completing the formality of another win.
ODI century #14 for Rohit Sharma
Who would've thought, after the sort of start that he had! Rohit Sharma has his arms up in the air to acknowledge his own ODI brilliance...and more so against Australia - he's smashed 9 centuries against them now. Exceptional batting from the opener, who has put India on course for a 4-1 series win here.
Thank you for the intro, Shirshendu. I'm here now (who? @kaushik_cb - come say hi) , having successfully negotiated an unexpected traffic jam on a Sunday afternoon! So India's 'experiment' phase lasted all of one match. But good to see Axar Patel keep his place. On belters - as this Nagpur pitch is tipped to be - finger spinners can provide control.
James Faulkner returns as well and that's good for him on what was widely billed as a comeback series. When he bowled on this ground in 2013, his figures read 9.3-0-73-1.

Brush up
In case you haven't followed this ODI series much, here's what Kaushik Rangarajan had to write about this game, in his preview
Pre-match talk
Umesh Yadav was on the road for a long time, playing 12 Tests in India's longest home season. While he loves turning up in the ODIs, he doesn't relish anything as much as playing a Test match. Here's what he had to say
While almost everyone in Australia is carrying an opinion on the out-of-form Matthew Wade, the 'keeper-batsman himself is not yet in panic zone. What did he have to say ahead of the game?
Warming Up
So we are down to the final ODI of the five-match ODI series between India and Australia. The hope of a series whitewash was quashed in the previous ODI when Warner made a 100 to make his 100th all the more special, and in the process also help Australia end the hosts' nine-match winning streak.
However, would India be bothered? One doubts. Their experimentation in a bid to establish their best combination ahead of the 2019 WC has worked well so far. While Hardik Pandya has reaped all rewards, questions remain so as to how far has Manish Pandey gone ahead of KL Rahul, or if the latter would get his chance again? That No. 4 spot so far hasn't been contested much and it lies as open as ever.
So with 5-0 gone, will it be 4-1 or even 3-2? That's one of the major things to look out for as both the teams lock horns in Nagpur. We will keep you covered here in our Live Blog space..
