Chase's rescue act lifts WI

Chase's impressive hundred took West Indies out of troubled waters on Day 1 of the second Test. Jason Holder proved to be an able ally as he composed a timely fifty and shared an alliance of 132 with Chase. At stumps, the home side was 286 for 6. The duo has certainly lifted the spirits of the home side's camp.

West Indies search for inspiration

Even after 23 matches and seven series, Pakistan haven't tasted a Test series victory in the picture-perfect Caribbean Islands. However, the visitors have the chance to put the record straight when they take on a rather modest West Indies side in the second Test at the iconic Kensington Oval, Bridgetown, Barbados.

The tourists won the first Test at Sabina Park by seven wickets. Despite the Test being marred by rain, Pakistan were able to take control of proceedings and eventually overcame the home side. Mohammad Amir bagged a six-fer in the first essay, while Yasir Shah ran through West Indies' batting line-up in the second to end up with a six-wicket haul. Misbah and Younis, the old warhorses, also contributed with scores of 99 and 58, respectively.

For the home side, they would rue the fact that easy catches were dropped and late on Day 4, they lost wickets in bunches to find themselves precariously-placed at 93 for 4. On a positive note, Shannon Gabriel bowled with good pace through the course of the Test. A few eyebrows were also raised when the hosts picked two debutants - Vishaul Singh and Shimron Hetmyer. The West Indies' think-tank may replace one of the Guyanese duo with Blackwood for the crucial tie.

The home side's fans will hope that the iconic ground, steeped in history, is going to motivate the young Caribbean side. Maybe West Indies' once proud record of having not lost a single Test over 16 matches at the stadium will inspire them? Or they will be inspired by those great feats by cricketers from Barbados in the years gone by.

The young bunch of cricketers certainly need to draw inspiration from somewhere. On the other hand, Misbah and Younis, the veteran duo, who are set to retire from international cricket after the three-match rubber, will be looking to bid farewell with a series win in the Caribbean.
