Hello All! So the Boxing Day is here. Welcome!

New Zealand had a tough time against Australia in that quick three-match ODI series while Bangladesh embark on an overseas tour after a gap of two years. Although the Black Caps would be a difficult side to beat when playing at home, they would be wary of a backlash from Bangladesh. Both the sides would know that there's little room to come back in a short series like this, making the first battle all the more important.

Weather seems fine for the first game, at least for now. Toss and playing elevens in a bit. You will find all of those updates here. To be a part of this cricket discussion, send in your tweets to me by tweeting

Tamim Iqbal absolutely loves playing that upper cut, he saw the ball was dropped in short, he hopped up to hit it in the air. Wonder if he ever likes to keep a shot down, with the man in the deep, he finds him with precision.

This is a telling blow to B'desh and guess who picked up the wicket? It is Neesham for the third time in this innings..

If Tamim and Shakib couldn't do it, Shakib and Mushfiqur have got together at the crease and the partnership is rolling along well at this point in time. No wickets lost for some time now and B'desh would already be keeping its fingers crossed. Too daunting a task, it is certainly not one man's job.

Sixes and fours coming quite regularly off Shakib's bat right now. And he has raised his fifty too. Is this the beginning of something special?

Lockie strikes and I'm afraid this game is over, at least appears to me so, if it wasn't earlier. No wait, Sabbir Rahman is in now. He has been in flamboyant form this year, can he do something special?Okay wait. A rising ball, Shakib's relentless attempts at pulling another one, this was too close to the body and he top edges a catch to one of the fielders on the on side. That is the end of some fight. Shakib as always, lives by the sword and dies by it. Gone, too soon!

Just the previous ball, he had hit for a six. Is he ever content? I don't think so. Asking rate was high anyway but could he have approached it a little differently? Only he can answer that..

This had been Sabbir Rahman's year all so far and only he could have pulled off something special here, at least in taking B'desh closer than what they are going to end up with.

It was short as Sabbir tries to play the ramp shot, hits it in the direction of third man where the left-arm pacer, Trent Boult comes charging in and dives forward to take a superb catch. That is another wicket going down. Credit the fielder for that, you could give him a wicket for that as well. Anyway, B'desh slip further..

Mosaddek Hossain and Mushfiqur Rahim have now added almost 50 runs to their seventh wicket stand. Rahim has fancied his luck, and played a few shots whereas Mosaddek has got a few of them going. Delaying the inevitable? Certainly so..

He seems to be in excruciating pain as we see the physio running onto the field. Is it the hammy? Looks like. He seems to have pulled his hamstring here, and we all know how agonising it can be. He is finding it tough to carry on..

Ohh wait, he has decided that he cannot carry on further. He is walking off now. This is so disappointing. That's the last thing he would have wanted, especially when he seemed to be connecting with the ball well..

Mashrafe Mortaza has walked in to replace Mushfiqur now. And 5 boundaries already in the space of two overs between him and Mosaddek..

And Mortaza's party now comes to an end.. Too little, too late. Was eyeing a big shot over the mid-wicket region but couldn't quite clear the man. Santner takes a wicket.

It's totally falling apart now..

Mustafizur was the last man to depart and with Mushfiqur having retired hurt, New Zealand have made a brilliant beginning to their ODI campaign against Bangladesh. The Boxing Day holds great significance and the hosts couldn't have turned up better than this, to mark the date.

It started off with the perfect toss to win and Tom Latham and Colin Munro first got together to bail their side out of mid-innings hiccups, before powering them to a gargantuan total.

342 was always a very challenging score to chase down and regular wickets up front never helped the tourists. Despite the fight shown by Shakib and Rahim, it was always a matter of one wicket, which eventually turned out to be true. Shakib got a quickfire fifty and Rahim batted well for his 42 to delay the inevitable.

Towards the end, it was a mere formality as New Zealand performed the final rites rather comfortably, to knock Bangladesh out on Boxing Day. With this, New Zealand have taken a 1-0 lead and will look to close the series in the next game itself. I am sure you will join us for that too. Until then, this is Shirshendu Roy signing off. Adios.
