Sydney Sixers put in a thoroughly dominating performance against a hapless Hurricanes side © Cricbuzz
The first double header of the season. In the opening game we have Sydney Sixers taking on Hobart. Having lost their first match to Sydney Thunder, the Sixers would want to open their account. On the other hand, Hurricanes are playing their maiden game this season. They have made some interesting picks, Kumar Sangakkara has been roped in to bring experience to the side, while Tim Paine has taken over the leadership role from George Bailey.
Sydney Sixers are certainly missing the services of Steven Smith and Mitchell Starc - both are nursing injuries. They have the experience in Brad Haddin, Moises Henriques, Doug Bollinger and Johan Botha to fall back on. Two teams that are equally balanced, that will make it all the more exciting. The toss is done and we are minutes away for the game to begin. Stay tuned...
Hobart (From): Tim Paine(w/c), Ben Dunk, Kumar Sangakkara, George Bailey, Jonathan Wells, Darren Sammy, Daniel Christian, Cameron Boyce, Shaun Tait, Sam Rainbird, Joe Mennie, Simon Milenko, Clive Rose
Sydney Sixers (From): Michael Lumb, Brad Haddin(w), Nic Maddinson(c), Jordan Silk, Ryan Carters, Johan Botha, Sean Abbott, Trent Lawford, Nathan Lyon, Jackson Bird, Doug Bollinger, Moises Henriques, Steve O'Keefe, Ed Cowan, Ben Dwarshuis, Steven Smith
Shaun Tait starts with a short delivery outside off, is fiercely square-cut for four by Michael Lumb. Follows that up with another short one except this delivery is clocked at 150kph and is closer to Lumb. The attempted upper cut finds the man at the third man. It's true. You'll never know which Tait your're going to get.
Left-armer Sam Rainbird starts with a tight line and should have had Haddin there. The slice just about evades the fielder on the off-side. Haddin hits the next one over the bowlers head for a four. Important partnership for the Sixers. Nic Maddinson is key.
Just the one over for Tait. Ben Dunk is brought on to bowl. Starts off with an ordinary delivery and is flayed away by Maddinson. Haddin picks up a three with a backfoot punch off the final delivery to make it a 10-run over. Strange bowling change.
Rainbird is taken apart for a four by Haddin, who loves these inside-out shots. He comes back decently but the Sixers are off to a good start here .
Birthday boy Darren Sammy wouldn't have seen that coming. He is taken apart for 22 runs in his first over as Haddin and Maddinson continue making merry on a solid batting surface at the SCG. Medium pacer Joe Mennie suffered a similar predicament in the next over as Brad Haddin backed away and exploited the gaps on the off-side for four fours.
Sixers have 70 in the first 6 overs
