Royal Challengers Bangalore have three matches left to secure their place in the IPL 2015 playoffs, and the first of those is against basement dwellers Kings XI Punjab in Mohali. Virat Kohli's team is currently at fifth place on the leaderboard with 13 points from 11 games, and three wins in a row would take them to 19. They will also hope that Kolkata Knight Riders, at No 2, lose to Mumbai Indians and then beat Rajasthan Royals, who are fourth, so that potentially RCB move to second place.
Kings XI Punjab succumbed to their tenth defeat of the season on Monday, and two evenings later the disappointing finalists from last season will play their penultimate match of an awful season. RCB are the team you want to avoid, but when you are KXIP who are ruled out of contention for the playoffs, does it make a difference?
KXIP managed nine runs plus a neglbye in the ninth over, which was bowled by Chahal, to reach the three-figure mark. The leg-spinner also managed to send back Bailey (13) in the same over. The KXIp skipper tried to play a paddle-sweep, but missed making any contact and was bowled. Chahal finished with figures of 2-0-25-2. Starc, who bowled the final over, dismissed Gurkeerat Singh (caught behind on 2) and gave away only six runs. KXIP finished with a total of 106/6.
The weather did not sound too promising for the 50th match of IPL 2015. There was a steady drizzle before the toss, but the good news was that it stopped.
