In each of their three games against the CSK last season, KXIP notched up scores in excess of 200. CSK, not used to copping a battering in IPL, faced crushing defeats in each of their three games. KXIP were on a roll then. Things are different this season. Carrying a mis-firing middle-order, KXIP haven't been at their dominant best and currently occupy the seventh spot. CSK however, like only they can do, continue to defy the law of averages and look primed to reserve another playoff berth.

However an interesting sub-plot defines this game. Glenn Maxwell hasn't been himself since the end of the World Cup. Ravichandran Ashwin, ditto! Will the presence of the other in the opposite dug-out inspire each to lift their games? Will Ashish Nehra continue his fine form and snatch back the purple cap from Tahir?

You can always count on a South African to hold on to a catch. Well they have their bad days, but David Miller wasn't going to drop that. McCullum's blitz ended after 66 runs when he hit an Axar delivery straight down Miller's throat at long-off. Raina however continued to enjoy a charmed stay at the crease. Chennai boy Murali Vijay picked up a four, a pick up shot towards mid-wicket and a six, backward of square, to give the KXIP chase much needed impetus. He knows this ground and the opposition inside out. He's timing them well.

Unfortunately for CSK, Ashish Nehra couldn't provide them the early breakthroughs he's been giving them. Vijay added another four of Nehra's second over as KXIP reached 28/1 after 4 overs. Ashwin and Jadeja crucial.

After conceding a four off his first ball, Mohit Sharma was assisted by some astute field placement by MS Dhoni and conceded only 3 more runs in the over. Nehra returned to his wicket-taking mode when he got the dangerous Shaun Marsh leg before wicket. Big blow this for KXIP. In comes George Bailey. 39/2 after 6!

Ravi Jadeja sent back Captain George Bailey out in his first over to put CSK firmly in control of the game. The Bailey attempted to go big over the off-side, got a nick and Dhoni completed a sharp catch. Huge confidence boost for Jaddu. Whoever said CSK spinners are struggling!

Ashwin too, despite starting with a wide down the leg side, started tidily and gave away just the six runs away. KXIP have reached 48/3 after 8 overs. Need to up the scoring rate. Target is not small!

Axar Patel hit a lusty six off Jadeja before attempting a repeat of the shot in the next over off Ashwin and was out stumped. This is going away very quickly. Sometimes teams need to be told that Net Run Rate can play a vital role in determining final table positions. Ashwin bowling with his tail up now! Considerably turn on offer!

Ravindra Jadeja sent back David Miller thanks to a superb piece of fielding by Raina at leg-slip. Miller glanced a leg-side delivery and Raina's quick reflexes sprung into action and he plucked off a blinder. Super catch. Kings XI slip further. Bad chase. Unless... Vijay can turn it around.

Murali Vijay became Ashwin's first victim when he flicked a full delivery straight down the throat of Dwayne Bravo in the deep. Surely no way back now for Kings XI. A very flat performance by them. In the field and with the bat.

Mitchell Johnson was the next to go when he slept Ravindra Jadeja straight down the throat off backward square leg fielder. The end is nigh for Punjab. We predicted that the CSK spinner would be key to this chase and they've literally ripped apart the Punjab batting order.

Mohit Sharma bowled a tidy over as Anureet and Saha looked to ensure no further wickets fell down. How will they play now knowing that the match is virtually done and dusted.

Dwayne Bravo was introduced into the attack as late as the 15th over. It's clear who the death bowler in CSK's lineup is. But unlike other bowlers who operate at the death, Bravo bowls only in the second half of the innings. Here he started off with a gentle five-run winner.

Ashwin's next over featured an outstanding attempt by Ravindra Jadeja to complete a catch at long off. He ran in, put in a full stretch dive got the ball but it popped out when he thudded on to the carpet. Excellent attempt.
