This is the first time India are touring Bangladesh for a bilateral series since 2007. The two teams have played two bilateral series, with India winning on both occasions. The two teams have played 25 times, with India winning 22 times and Bangladesh winning thrice.
With a hectic schedule ahead, India opted to rest their senior players. MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, Ravindra Jadeja, Ravichandran Ashwin, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Mohammad Shami have been rested. Suresh Raina, who wasn't part of the last Indian ODI team will lead the side. This is the third time he will lead the national team.
With 206 ODI wickets, Abdur Razzak is clearly the most successful Bangladeshi bowler. However, his record against India is easily his worst. He has managed just 8 wickets from 11 games, at an unimpressive strike-rate of 69.37.
Bangladesh captain Mushfiqur Rahim won the toss and decided to bat first. India included two debutants in their line up - off-break bowler Parvez Rasool and left-handed all-rounder Akshar Patel.
Bangladesh (Playing XI): Anamul Haque, Tamim Iqbal, Mominul Haque, Shakib Al Hasan, Mushfiqur Rahim(w/c), Nasir Hossain, Ziaur Rahman, Mashrafe Mortaza, Mahmudullah, Abdur Razzak, Al-Amin Hossain
India (Playing XI): Robin Uthappa, Ajinkya Rahane, Cheteshwar Pujara, Suresh Raina(c), Wriddhiman Saha(w), Akshar Patel, Parvez Rasool, Ambati Rayudu, Mohit Sharma, Umesh Yadav, Amit Mishra
Raina: We would have chased anyway, so happy with the toss outcome. The players have done very well in First-Class cricket and the Indian T20 league. We need to do well in all departments of the game. Had a nice practise session, looking forward to the match.
Rahim: We will bat first. They have a young side, we can put them under pressure chasing. We are not taking them lightly, we want to show our ability to the world.
Tamim Iqbal and Anamul Haque struggled to get going as the Indian new ball bowlers bowled tight lines, keeping the Bangladesh openers in check. Mohit Sharma started off with a maiden, Umesh conceded 2 in the next, Mohit gave away just 1 in the third over before India tasted success. Tamim, who appeared to have edged a Umesh Yadav delivery while trying to defend, was given out caught-behind on nought. The decision though was debatable as replays suggested that the bat hit the bat while there was no clear evidence of a nick.
Suresh Raina had the perfect opportunity to send back the well-set Anamul Haque when the right-hander edged an Umesh Yadav delivery straight at the Indian captaiin, but Raina put down a relatively simple chance.
Yadav was, however, not to be denied as he enjoyed a slice of fortune in his next over. Mominul Haque departed chasing a wide delivery and feathered an edge to the keeper, to leave his side in a spot of bother
Bangladesh captain Mushfiqur Rahim smashed Akshar Patel for the first six of the match as he fought hard to ensure Bangladesh overcome the early setbacks and up their scoring. The six came in the 16th over.
Parvez Rasool, one of the stars to watch out for in India, got into the act at the perfect time for the visitors as he ended a potentially dangerous partnership between Rahim and Haque by accounting for the latter on 44.
It was the off-spinner's first international wicket, foxing the right-hander with flight, as he was out caught at deep mid-wicket trying to clear the boundary.
Seeing his side throw away 3 wickets, Bangladesh captain Mushfiqur Rahim dropped anchor and played a responsible innings. He, along with Shakib al Hasan, helped Bangladesh set up a decent platform for an explosive finish.
Rahim went on to notch up his 15th ODI fifty in the process.
Parvez Rasool gave India a vital breakthrough as he got rid of the Bangladesh skipper, who was batting brilliantly on 59. It was India's fourth wicket, and by far their most important looking at the way Rahim was batting.
