If anyone would have told that England would go on to make 408 in the first ODI, it would have raised quite a few eyebrows. But the hosts not only did just that but also won by a record margin of 210 runs.

Unbelievably so, just 4 months ago, Tim Southee's 7/33 had destroyed England in the World Cup, a match they lost by eight wickets.

A host of records were broken in the first game and here at the Oval, where England have a good record, they would be gearing up to use their new-found aggression to go 2-0 in the series.

You can read more in our preview here. For now, toss and teams are coming up in a few minutes. Stay tuned.

England scored 206 runs in their last 20 overs to reach a score of 408 in the first ODI.

New Zealand today have 209 on board after 30 overs. How much can they get? I say, 341. What about you?

Oh bad news for the tourists - Corey Anderson has been ruled out of the series with a stress-related back injury and will be returning home for further assessment.

Openers Brendon McCullum and Martin Guptill helped New Zealand get off to a good start. They began the first few overs sedately but soon McCullum got in his groove and hit some wonderful shots. In Chris Jordan's third over, Baz went 4 6 6 4 on the first four balls and the bowler ended up conceding 21 in that over.

Brendon McCullum could not stay long and ended up throwing his wicket after a fiery 39. He was cramped for room on a short delivery and mistimed the pull shot and the ball ballooned towards short mid-wicket, where Stokes held onto a decent catch after running back to his right. That's an important wicket for the hosts. We all know what damage McCullum can inflict if he is allowed to run free.

What a game of cricket! 763 runs have been scored in the day and an excellent performance was put up by both the teams.

The balance in the game kept shifting but in the end rain had the last laugh. The D/L method made the equation tougher for England with the hosts requiring 34 off 13 balls. The pressure was too much for them and they lost the game by 13 runs.

The five-match ODI series is now levelled. If the first two games are anything to go by, looks like we have a cracking contest on cards in the future ODIs as well.

Join us on Sunday for the 3rd ODI.

Nathan McCullum struck twice to remove both set batsmen Liam Plunkett and Adil Rashid. First to go was Plunkett, who mistimed the loft and mid-off ran back to hold a simple take.

But the dismissal of the day was Adil Rashid's, who was removed by an excellent tag-team catch by Tim Southee and Trent Boult. Southee did it for the Knights, he did it for Rajasthan Royals and did it now for New Zealand as well. Southee ran to his left, caught the ball and just before he was about to go over the rope, threw it to Boult, who was running in from long-off.
