Big day for New Zealand. They will be playing a World Cup knockout game in front of their home crowd and will start as clear favorites having won 6 games on the bounce. West Indies reckon that McCullum's men will be under more pressure and there is some weight to that thought as well. Jason Holder and Co will have to punch above their weight to overcome New Zealand on their home soil. The batting needs to come good and the news of Gayle being fit will come as a huge boost for them.

Surprising move from Brendon McCullum. New Zealand have been exceptional while bowling first in this World Cup. So batting first does come as a surprise. Perhaps the pressure of a knockout game was weighing on his mind. Chasing targets will not be easy. Milne returns for New Zealand while Gayle comes in for West Indies. So does Benn.

Teams:

West Indies (Playing XI): Chris Gayle, Johnson Charles, Marlon Samuels, Jonathan Carter, Lendl Simmons, Denesh Ramdin(w), Darren Sammy, Andre Russell, Jason Holder(c), Jerome Taylor, Sulieman Benn

New Zealand (Playing XI): Brendon McCullum(c), Martin Guptill, Kane Williamson, Ross Taylor, Grant Elliott, Corey Anderson, Luke Ronchi(w), Daniel Vettori, Adam Milne, Tim Southee, Trent Boult

Taylor and Guptill doing a good job of ensuring that the quick start is not wasted. Taylor has been watchful but has got a start. Guptill going at good rate as well in the middle overs and the partnership is over fifty now in quick time. One of the two might just go after West Indies pretty soon to pile on the pressure. New Zealand have a great platform and can afford to up the ante rather early.

Jerome Taylor could have had Guptill off just the third ball of the innings. A flick from the batsman saw Samuels juggling at square leg before spilling it. Could have been taken. Guptill not wasting any time to rub salt into the wound. Taylor creamed with three lovely straight drives to the boundary. Early signs but Guptill is certainly looking good.

Brilliant catch by Holder. That's how you do it, Samuels. The ball was pitched up and McCullum was going at everything. He got this one on the bottom of the bat. Holder ran back from wide mid off and stretched out to take an excellent catch. Silenced the crowd at the Tin Can completely. West Indies seem pumped up for this.

Williamson has started well as well. Got going with three boundaries off a Taylor over. The first powerplay yielded 63 runs. Good base for New Zealand. Spin coming on in the form of Benn now. West Indies need to slow things down a touch. Run-making looking quite easy for NZ at the moment.

They were desperate for a wicket. Williamson and Guptill had added over fifty in quick time. Benn raps the former on the pad and appeals but the umpire says not out. West Indies try a review anyway but the ball is just clipping the leg stump. On field call stays and Williamson survives. West Indies have to hold on here. Getting close to being frustrated already at the lack of wickets. It's the impending danger that will be playing on their minds. NZ capable of wreaking havoc if they have wickets in hand in the end overs.

Massive wicket for West Indies. Williamson chips a slower delivery from Russell to short cover. Gayle juggles but holds on and breaks out into a wide smile. Completely against the run of play and a 62-run stand has been broken. West Indies will be delighted with this. Now to exert more control.

It has been a good innings from the openers. Started by countering the swing with some lovely drives and gradually settled in to play a lot more carefully. Looks well set to carry on for a big knock and New Zealand couldn't have asked for anything better.

Martin Guptill has a ton in a World Cup knockout game! Very mature innings and it is his second on the trot. Got it off 111 balls and he will definitely look to go after West Indies now. The short boundaries will come into play as well. He's scored 12 fours but not a six yet. Suspect that he will be targetting a lot more of those now.
