After 42 league games, the business end of the 2015 ICC Cricket World Cup is finally upon us. The first quarter-final features South Africa and Sri Lanka at the SCG.

For Sri Lanka, it has been a decent World Cup so far. Their only two losses have come against the co-hosts, Australia and New Zealand while they have been clinical against the other teams. On the other hand, South Africa have been inconsistent, notching up two 400-plus stories against West Indies and Ireland while they have lost to India and South Africa.

South Africa, though, are under 'Choke' territory. They have NEVER won a knock-out match so far and they will be aiming to break the jinx today. Sri Lanka, though, will be aiming to prolong their agony.

In four World Cup encounters, South Africa have a 2-1 advantage over Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka won in 1992, lost in 1999 and tied the 2003 encounter in confounding circumstances. In the 2007 World Cup, Lasith Malinga's unprecedented four wickets in four balls almost gave Sri Lanka victory but South Africa got over the line by one wicket.

BIG NEWS: Sri Lanka have suffered a huge blown in the lead-up to the quarter-final. Rangana Herath, their ace spinner, has been ruled out of the World Cup due to a finger injury. Tharindu Kaushal is expected to make his appearance today. Big moment for him but Sri Lanka will miss Herath's servces immensely.

South Africa, though, will welcome back Faf du Plessis who missed the match against UAE due to a lower back injury. It will be interesting to see whether Rillee Rossouw or Farhaan Behardien make may.

Quinton de Kock applied the finishing touches for South Africa with a boundary in the 18th over. South Africa won a knock-out game at the World Cup for the first time in ODI history. They won by nine wickets.
