Charl Langeveldt, the South Africa bowling coach, delivered some words of wisdom to precocious quick Kagiso Rabada before the crux series against Australia started. After starring on day four to put South Africa on the brink of a famous victory, it appears the 21-year-old took heed of his coach's advice.

In a scintillating spell late on day four at the WACA, Rabada (3 for 49 from 16 overs) broke open the match with a devastating burst, which included the pivotal wickets of Steve Smith (34) and Adam Voges (1) to leave South Africa poised for victory.

Speaking at the press conference after the day's play, Langeveldt said he spoke to Rabada before the series about the daunting challenges ahead for the rapidly improving quick. "I told him that you will be tested here because Australia play their cricket hard," he said. "I told him that your first season is your easiest season but that the second season people will work you out. He is the type of bowler who wants to improve.

"He is a quick learner and asks a lot of questions and is very knowledgeable about the game," he said. "(To bowl) 145km as a 21-year-old is always exciting."

Losing spearhead Dale Steyn to injury has handicapped South Africa, who are operating with just three frontline bowlers, including left-arm debutant Keshav Maharaj. It has all meant that there is more pressure on Rabada's young shoulders but he has seemingly relished the responsibility. In an
