New Zealand were in the stronger position at the end of Day 2. Well, they're not now. And that's how games swing in the sub-continent. India put up a strong bowling show to clinch a slender first innings lead and then piled on the agony with a strong batting performance that stretched the lead to 433. Ashwin's triple strike in the final session on Day 4 and a school boy error from Ross Taylor has left the visitors with a daunting fifth day task. Should they eke out a draw here, it would be a massive, massive achievement.

Will they? We will know soon. Welcome to the fifth day's play from Green Park where India look to begin their 13-Test home sojourn with a win. If they get it, it would be a cherry atop all the 500th celebrations.

That's a six-fer and 10 for the match for Ravichandran Ashwin. There's no stopping him at the moment. Finishes it off with another carrom ball... It's almost a seam-up delivery. Traps Wagner adjacent to the stumps. It's all over here. India win by 197 runs. A comprehensive victory to start the season. It's also the 500th Test, in case you'd forgotten. Rahane hands Ashwin a stump souvenir. Smiles all around in the Indian camp. Hasn't been easy all the way. They were behind after two days but stormed back well. Good resilience.

If New Zealand have to entertain any thoughts of saving this Test from here, they'll need herculean efforts from Luke Ronchi and Mitchell Santner. The duo did well to keep a rampaging India at bay late last evening. They needn't look far for inspiration either. Roston Chase & Co. denied India a Test win only recently and they batted in strangely similar circumstances.

There's also the possibility of rain playing a part in the final day. So there's definitely rewards for doggedness.

Oh it's been all R Ashwin! ... 200 Test wickets from 37 matches... As my colleague, Pratyush Sinha aptly sums up - Wow!

Here's Ganesh Chandrasekaran on how the tweaker from Chennai is building his legacy one step at a time. You can also read the full transcript of Shane Jurgenson's (NZ bowling coach) post-Day 4 quotes here.

If numbers are you thing, then you may not want to miss this statscompilation from Deepu Narayana. It features Rohit Sharma, Ravindra Jadeja and what's his name again?... Yes, Ashwin.

Kohli begins proceedings with Ashwin and Jadeja. Absolutely no surprises there. And Ashwin has already bowled two rippers to Mitchell Santner. Pitching on leg, throwing up dust and curving away to beat the outside edge. Exaggerated turn, this!

Luke Ronchi and Mitchell Santner have made a good start to the final day. They're playing with soft hands and look assured with their footwork. They've batted for over 25 overs now. Classical Test match batting. Ashwin is now operating with a short mid-off. A new strategy for the offie. This should be interesting.
