SUMMARY

It was a tragic end to Steve Camacho's career when a bouncer from his teammate Andy Roberts smashed his cheeks in a County game. It was a severe injury and ended his Test career instantly. Before that, he did have a fairly decent Test career, mostly as an opener where his subtle ways at the crease complemented the more attacking instincts of Roy Fredericks or Seymour Nurse. His style of play relied on patience and grit, often grinding the opposition while his partners flayed them around the park. Camacho belonged to a cricketing background with his grandfather having played First-class cricket for Trinidad and Tobago. After his playing days, Camacho joined administration and was the first full-time employee of the West Indies Cricket Board, doubling up as a selector and secretary at different points of his career. He also wrote a book on cricket later on.
