A leg-break bowler, Peter Smith played 4 Tests for England, garnering 3 wickets. He was a warhorse on the first-class front, taking 1697 wickets in 465 games. Smith was also a handy batsman, who claimed 8 first-class centuries. Smith was at the peak of his prowess in 1947, scoring 1063 runs and capturing 172 wickets for Essex. He died, aged 58, from brain haemorrhage.
