Shalika Karunanayake is a young fast-bowling all-rounder, who made his first-class debut Kurunegala Youth Cricket Club when he was only 16 in 2004 against Sri Lanka Air Force Sports Club. He was also a part of the Under-15 team before becoming a part of the Under-19 one. he first shot to fame when he the team toured England in 2005 and he scored 58 batting at the number 10 position in an ODI at Old Trafford. He followed that with a five-wicket haul in Tests at Scarborough.

Karunanayake scored his debut first-class ton in the 2007-2008 season. As of now, he has scored close to 3000 first-class runs and over 100 first-class wickets.
