In a country where legspinners have historically been ignored in the system, Rishad Hossain's emergence is a success in itself, even without considering the fact that he comes from a small town called Nilphamari (around 354 kms away from Dhaka). A tall bowler who can give it a rip, and someone who is also handy with the bat, Rishad was just 20 when he broke into the T20I setup for Bangladesh. At that point, he had played only one match in the BPL and was largely an unknown quantity. However, he has grown rapidly to make a place for himself in the shortest format.

The highlight of his short career came during the 2024 T20 World Cup when he picked up 14 wickets to finish as the leading wicket-taker for Bangladesh. Apart from his bowling, Rishad is also a gun fielder and he can hit the ball hard, which he showed while scoring his maiden T20I fifty against Sri Lanka - a knock that included 7 sixes.
