PLAYER OF THE MATCH
USA with a big win and they keep themselves in the race even though it looks highly likely that India and Pakistan are the two who would go through from this group. Time to wrap up our coverage of this one. We will be there nice and fresh early for another triple-header tomorrow. See you then. Bye bye.
Monank Patel: (On their clinical performance) Firstly, really happy with the way we played today. Losing the toss and being asked to bat first wasn’t easy, the wicket was holding a bit. But I thought the intent we showed was excellent. That was something we were missing in the first two games, and as a batting group we came back really strongly. The top four took responsibility, played with intent, and got us to a very good score. Initially, we wanted to assess the pitch, see how it was behaving. Once we got a feel for it and settled in, the plan was to make sure we punished the bad balls, show intent, and put the bowlers under pressure. That was very clear in our thinking. (On whether the confidence was built during the warm-up phase) Absolutely. We prepared really well in the warm-up games. We scored 200 against India and New Zealand. It was never about ability, it was just about showing that intent consistently, especially in the first two World Cup games. It was a tough start to the World Cup for us, but we’ve learned a lot from those matches, and that’s helped us. After Shayan got out, the message I sent was that it was a 170-run pitch. With the quality of spinners we had in our bowling attack, I thought 170 would be a very competitive total if we batted well. (On Saiteja Mukkamalla) He’s an incredible talent for USA. The way he’s been batting over the last two years, it feels like he’s been playing international cricket for 10 years. He’s a very mature player. Credit to him - he took responsibility. We’ve been talking about the top three, that one of them needs to bat through the innings, and the way he did that today was fantastic to watch. (On Harmeet Singh) I thought the way he attacked the stumps, used his pace, and invited the batters to take risks was outstanding. He bowled brilliantly and gave us that early momentum.
Scott Edwards: (Did USA score a few too many?) It was probably a bit more than we were hoping for. The bowling group has been sensational in the first two games, but today we probably missed our lengths a few too many times. Credit to United States of America, they put us under pressure. I thought we pulled it back reasonably well at the end, but overall they got away slightly. (On what did he make of the surface after USA's brilliant first-innings display) It was obviously a pretty good surface. The ball came on nicely. From our point of view, we just never really got going with the bat - we kept losing wickets at regular intervals, which was disappointing. (On having lost three wickets within the powerplay) It’s tough, especially when the run rate quickly climbs to 11 or 12 an over. Then it’s about finding that balance - trying to bring the rate back under control without losing any more wickets. That’s always the challenge in that situation. (On their preparation for their next game against India) We travel again tomorrow, we’ll have a debrief, probably take a day off, and then reset and focus on that final game.

Harmeet Singh’s average speed dropped by 8kmph tonight compared to his first two outings combined, and he got considerably more turn and drift while doing so.
Harmeet Singh | Player of the Match: (On his plan with the ball tonight) When I first saw the wicket in the first innings, the ball was holding a bit - even when I went in to bat. So the plan was to really spin the ball. During the powerplay, when I bowled, it gripped a couple of times straight away, so I decided to trust that and not change too much. It was almost like a one-day plan - staying patient and backing my strengths. (On being in sync with his captain) Yes, absolutely. That was the conversation we had during the innings - that there was assistance if we were willing to give the ball some spin. So whenever we were under pressure, the idea was to go back to spinning the ball rather than forcing anything. (On their batters setting it up nicely for their bowlers) Definitely. Full credit to the batters. Saiteja gave us a fantastic start, and Shubham finished it off beautifully. They gave us a great total to work with, which allowed me to go out there, bowl with freedom, and really spin the ball. There’s been a lot of talk about us, but I think we’ve shown that we belong here. We’ve already shown what we can do, and today I think we proved that we can do it with the ball as well.
22:06 Local Time, 16:36 GMT, 22:06 IST: USA who pushed India with the ball have handed Netherlands a thrashing here. And to know that this is their first-ever win against Netherlands in a T20I. After a big total on the board, USA came out with the ball and took wickets at regular intervals to claim the 2 points. Harmeet the star with a four-fer and he had the ball on a string. The others supported him nicely. A highest score of 23 in a chase of 197 is never going to win you games. Shadley van Schalkwyk continued his good form with the ball with a three-fer. A comprehensive performance by USA and they do their NRR a big boost with this big win. Stay tuned for the post-match stuff...

Shadley van Schalkwyk to Fred Klaassen, out Caught by Milind Kumar!! USA create history with this win. First time they have beaten the Netherlands in a T20I. Full and the leg-cutter slower-ball, following Fred Klaassen outside the leg-stump, he looks to push at that, gets under it a bit too much, the thick outer half of the bat is found and a simple catch to mid-off.
