PLAYER OF THE MATCH
That's it for now. We will see you tomorrow with more action. Bye bye...
Aayan Khan | Player of the Match: It was a big spinning wicket. For me it was happy to take few wickets. I was seeing in this team for me to bowl 4 overs is so good because I didn't bowl for few games and it was so good to bowl now. Yeah sure because this match has been so good for me. I have taken few wickets and it was spinning as well so of course for me it's so nice to be here. This team has been so friendly to me.
James Vince | Gulf Giants captain: Winning the toss and bowling first. I thought the spinners were excellent through the middle. Daws, Aayan, whenever he plays, seems to be doing an amazing job for us, so great to see him do well. I think they probably got away from us a little bit at the end. Obviously, as the evenings went on, pace off was quite tricky to hit. So I think they got 40, 50 off the last four overs, which probably a couple too many on there. But yeah, overall, pretty happy with the bowling effort. And then we felt trying to get ahead of the game, knowing that the quality of spin they had through the middle, the way the pitch was playing, getting ahead of the game is important. So obviously got off to a decent start with the bat. It was tricky, like we expected, through the middle against their quality spinners. But yeah, managed to get over the line in the end. (key on this pitch?) I think pace off the ball, we saw even the seamers roll their fingers down it, sort of sat in the pitch a bit. The spinners throughout the game played a really big role in the game. So yeah, Daws, Aayan, Moeen and our seamers took pace off the ball were tricky to hit. (on Nissanka) As far as I understand, he's going to be okay for the next game. But it will happen quite late on in the day, so we'll have to leave that to the professionals. But yeah, hopefully he's back in for us on Friday. Absolutely. Obviously, the last game we got in a position where we could have won it with a super over, but that happens in the game. So, to be three from four, playing some decent cricket, and, you know, we've been, got ahead in a lot of the games, and then managed to get over the line in three of them. So, a big game coming up on Friday against the Vipers. But, yeah, pleased with where we're at and hopefully we can continue the momentum on Friday. (on how he is feeling?) Getting there, yeah, much better than I was a few days ago.
Tim Southee | Sharjah Warriorz captain: I think the last two, we've been in it right to the end. I think tonight was a good effort to take it deep in the position we're in after the powerplay. So, there's still stuff to take out of this game and hopefully we can keep going, but it's, yeah, 0 off three is not where we want to be, but we're going to have a chance in a couple of days to put that right. (on the wicket) There's a little bit of dew but I think we saw on that wicket, we knew we had quality spinners through the middle that could take it deep, we did incredibly well to take that deep. Our spinners bowled very well through the middle to give us a chance towards the end. (on team changes for next game?) We'll get back to that, digest this one and then obviously there's a different opposition next one to contemplate, so, yeah, we'll look at that and we'll make those decisions.
22:01 Local Time, 18:01 GMT, 23:31 IST: The Giants scrape across the line. At the halfway stage they were cruising but as we have seen many times in this tournament, once wickets fall, the chase gets tougher. Rashid bowled superbly and got his side back into this. But the job was finished in the final over by Sean Dickson. Earlier, Gurbaz and Hales played so well in the powerplay. The former with power and the latter with all class. But after the powerplay, the spinners came on and pulled things back. A good cameo from Omarzai too as he smacked a few important hits. In the end 158 didn't prove to be enough for the Warriorz who lose three on the trot. Stay tuned for the post-match stuff...
