Nqobani Mokoena: It was my first game here at the Wanderers, so it wasn’t easy, I won’t lie. I was just trying to adapt, but things didn’t really go my way today. We knew they were trying to target the shorter boundaries. So I had to be smart and take responsibility, stick to the plan, and try to stay one step ahead. They (Joburg Super Kings) know these conditions well at the Wanderers. The boys are more than capable, so I back them fully.

There was a delay early in the 19th over due to a floodlight failure, which clearly put the brakes on the Joburg Super Kings’ momentum. Before that interruption, they were charging along nicely. Faf du Plessis and James Vince gave them a flying start, racing to 64 in the powerplay. Vince carried that momentum forward, stitching together another 50+ partnership with Matthew de Villiers. However, Vince’s dismissal for 75 in the 17th over proved to be the turning point, breaking the rhythm just when acceleration was needed. 187 is still a big total on a surface that isn’t a belter, with plenty of assistance for spinners and slower deliveries.
