PLAYER OF THE MATCH
That will be that from the Boxing Day double-header. We hope you had great fun following the thrill-a-minute ride. Cheers!!
Tim David | Player of the Match: it just felt a little bit of something (hammy) when I was trying to come back for two, so not ideal, but I didn’t want to make it worse. I had full faith in the boys to get us home, so they did. I think, obviously, the scores didn’t do us so well here at Optus, but it can become a different pitch to bat in the second ten, so you get to the stage where the boys did a really good job to build a platform, and sure, we were behind where we’d like to be in the run rate, but it gave us an opportunity to take a chance, and obviously, the power surge gives you a bit of momentum if you can get a few out of the middle, so it’s a big ground out here, and they make you work hard, bowling in good lengths into the pitch. So, yeah, we wanted to take the power surge early. That was always the plan, try and walk out and play with freedom and put them under pressure. I felt like I started in fifth gear today. We had a conversation on the bench. We’ve got a bit of a fluid batting order. We trust ourselves. We’ve got a lot of experience with our middle order. Obviously, Wadey’s not here today, but conversations are happening all the time, and today, I said to Nathan, I said, look, I’m a batter, and it’s my time to go out. So, obviously, the boys behind did a great job to get us home as well, but please get a couple out of the middle, and that’s my role as a middle order batter. You’ve got to recognise those moments in the game and try and make a difference. I think we’ve seen Rishad. It’s the first time we’ve seen him here in Australia, but we’ve seen how good he is, so it’s great to have him as a part of our team. Obviously, you can just chuck the ball to him, short straight boundaries, and he’s so cagey. So, you know, he’s got something a bit special, and obviously, Rehan is chipping in as well. He’s maybe not the frontline leg spinner with Rishad there, but it’s really a treat for Nathan. He’s got so many options that we can’t fit all our bowlers in, and then obviously our quicks do such a good job. That was an amazing restricting effort in the back 10 overs that really put a score that we could chase and have that opportunity to hold for the little bit that we did.
21:38 local, 13:38 GMT, 19:08 IST: The chase didn't quite gather steam until Tim David arrived. His team was 39/3 in the 8th over and the big man did well to steady the ship with a 50-plus partnership with Nikhil Chaudhary. Right after the 10th over, Hurricanes activated the power surge and smacked 27 runs off it. With required rate under control, both set batters departed off the field in the space of 5 balls. While Nikhil got out lbw to Connolly, Tim David was forced to walk off due to a hamstring injury in the 15th over. From that point, the visitors needed a calm head out in the middle and they found one in Macalister Wright, who helped his side get past the winning line with a bit of help from the lower-middle order. All in all, it was a convincing win for the Hurricanes...
