That ends the first ODI of the series. We will be back with the second one on 31st August from the same venue. Do join us then. For now it's bye bye.

Charith Asalanka | Sri Lanka captain: Amazing game of cricket. Fought till the end, that kind of cricket. We need to learn to play well and at the end, Dilshan, Asitha and Maheeshi... That's the lineup we want to look at going forward. If we play another allrounder, there is a lack of batting, we are looking at 7 batters and the allrounders have to bowl more. (On the Liyanage-Kamindu stand) That was impressive actually, they are the ones who set the platform for us. We were in trouble once I got out. Amazing partnership and congrats to them.

Dilshan Madushanka | Player of the Match (translated from Sinhala by Thilina Kandamby): I was playing after a whole in ODI cricket and more than happy to perform well. We had a plan on how to execute in the death overs, that's what I was thinking and to make a good comeback.

Sean Williams | Zimbabwe captain: The powerplay was unbelievable for us. All the chances were taken and it went to plan. And at the back end of the innings, bad decision on my part and that one over cost us the game. (On Ngarava and Muzarabani) They have been unbelievable for us, setting the tone at the beginning of the series, it's class. It's a very different stage, try not and let this chaos into the batting, lost two wickets, Ben and myself tried to be proactive and play our shots. Ben was striking the ball better than me at that stage. Getting in line of the ball and accessing it with the required rate at run-a-ball, he was nice and proactive. (On Munyonga) His character off the field speaks volumes, it was tough fitness-wise, lots of twos on offer there and they nailed the yorkers. I think he's doing really well.

17:49 Local Time, 15:49 GMT, 21:19 IST: Sri Lanka are all smiles. What a fantastic last over from Madushanka. He bowled poorly till the last over but then got a hat-trick to seal the game. Raza is standing near the boundary with his pads on and looking distraught. A valiant knock from him and it was his wicket at the fag end which cost Zimbabwe the game. He batted beautifully, shepherding the strike and hitting boundaries whenever needed. His stand with Munyonga took Zimbabwe to the doorstep of victory. Earlier, Zimbabwe started badly as they lost Bennett and Brendan Taylor in the first over. But a fine stand between Ben Curran and Sean Williams of 118 set Zimbabwe back on the path. They were ahead and giving Sri Lanka headaches when Williams fell to the sweep. A couple of quick wickets followed and it was Sri Lanka who were on top then. But Raza and Munyonga added 128 and paced the chase quite well. Excellent death bowling from the trio of pacers ensured that the game went to the last over. Despite having an extra fielder inside the ring in the last two overs, Sri Lanka came through. It must be said that worked in their favor as Raza went to capitalise on that and fell. A fabulous game to start this series. Stay tuned for the post-match stuff....

49.6

Madushanka to Munyonga, 1 run, Sri Lanka win by 7 runs. Length delivery and angling away from the right-hander outside off, Munyonga gets forward to loft, slices it, mid-off runs back and doesn't go for the catch, allows the ball to fall in front of him and it's just one, Sri Lanka have pulled this one off under dark skies and with the lights on

Asalanka is all smiles in the dark. He touches hands with Madushanka.

49.5

Madushanka to Munyonga, no run, that should be that. A low full-toss and angling away from the right-hander just outside off, Munyonga drives and misses, a dot and a legal delivery next will do it for Sri Lanka

9 off 2. Munyonga has to find the fence here. Won't be easy though. These are some of the biggest boundaries you can see on any cricket ground in the world.

49.4

Madushanka to Muzarabani, 1 run, full just outside off, Muzarabani drives hard and straight to long-on, Munyonga won't go for two

Blessing Muzarabani, right handed bat, comes to the crease

49.3

Madushanka to Ngarava, out Bowled!! Hat-trick for Madushanka. Was always on the cards with the way Ngarava plays. A crude slog to leg to a length delivery on off and middle, misses and the stumps are rearranged. This was tailing back in at pace too. Ngarava b Madushanka 0(1)

Madushanka to Ngarava, THATS OUT!! Bowled!!

Richard Ngarava, left handed bat, comes to the crease

49.2

Madushanka to Brad Evans, out Caught by Asitha Fernando!! Two in two for Madushanka. Low full-toss just outside off, Brad Evans shuffles across to scoop and doesn't get a good connection on it. Asitha runs back from backward square-leg and takes a simple catch. Madushanka on a hat-trick and the task suddenly gets so much tougher for Zimbabwe. Brad Evans c Asitha Fernando b Madushanka 0(1)

Madushanka to Brad Evans, THATS OUT!! Caught!!

Brad Evans, right handed bat, comes to the crease

The lights are on at the moment. 10 off 5. Brad Evans can strike them big.

49.1

Madushanka to Raza, out Bowled!! The middle-stump takes a beating and that should seal the game for Sri Lanka. Madushanka has not had a great day but delivers when it matters. The off-side had 3 in the ring, so Raza tried to go leg-side and misses a low full-toss, he shuffles across to scoop and misses. The middle-stump is down and so are Zimbabwe's hopes. Raza falls for a superb 92. Raza b Madushanka 92(87) [4s-8]

Madushanka to Raza, THATS OUT!! Bowled!!
