PLAYER OF THE MATCH
NZ take the series 2-0 and this is their first bilateral series win against England at home since 2008. The hosts will rejoice this for sure. NZ are a tough team to beat at home and they have put up another example of that. They used the conditions better and England failed to adjust. England refused to douse down their aggression and that didn't help them as they were shunted out early in both the games. They left a lot of runs in both the games and that allowed NZ to cover lost ground despite stuttering in the run chases. Santner and co. will look to keep a clean slate but will Brook and co. allow them that? All the questions and answers will be ready. For now, we are ready to log off. Hop tabs as there so many other games to enjoy. Bye for now...
Mitchell Santner: It was a great game for us. Obviously, it started upfront with the ball. The boys were exceptional. Probably wasn't as much in it as we thought, but I thought we adapted pretty well. To restrict a team like that to 170, it was a pretty good effort. 170, we'll definitely take that. We knew it was going to be a challenging chase, especially with the likes of Carse and Archer. The way we lose that chase is if we're 3-4 down early, so it might not have been their most fluent - Kane and Rachin - but they did a hell of a job just to get us through that powerplay and get a little bit of momentum for us. (On Mitchell) You don't really want to get him too fired up, because he loves it even more. He's been outstanding for us in the middle, especially in one-day cricket. Last game and this game, to back it up, he's nice to be in our team. (On his own batting) When I kind of sit there and get a bit scratchy, I'll probably nick it off, so I thought, let's not do that. It was nice and just to finish off like that, especially against a great team. Very happy with going 2-0 up in the series in front of another great crowd. He (Tickner) is a world-class bowler. That's the environment, guys come in and be themselves, and then go out and perform. Ticks was outstanding, especially the first innings, straight into the wind, kept bashing away, kept bashing the wicket, and then got rewards. Duffy and Foulkesy did a good job in the powerplay.
Harry Brook: Disappointing to say the least, but we've got to come back stronger and better for Sunday and hopefully get at least one win against these boys who are second in the world rankings. They've played well, they've played better than us in the first two games. (On the conditions) It's very similar to England. It does do a little bit with the new ball. They're nice wickets to bat on, but it's just trying to get through that first period of your innings, the first 15-20 balls and then you've got to try and cash in from that. We want to get out there and entertain the world, entertain everybody watching here, and it's just not come off in the last couple of games. It was only two-three games ago when we got 400 against South Africa, so it's not far away, and hopefully we can have a good game on Saturday. (On Jofra Archer) He's an awesome bowler. Everybody loves watching him. He bowls 90-95mph and he hoops it both ways. So he's a valuable asset for us. For him to bowl 3/23 off 10 overs is just amazing. So, it's awesome to have him back. (On the final ODI) Just dig deep again. Same messaging. We're going to try and entertain, we're going to try and be positive and aggressive, and hopefully it comes off this time.
Blair Tickner, Player of the Match:It felt really good. I didn't expect it. I thought I was just going to come and run some tricks. It was obviously a great performance from the guys, so it was awesome to be there. Last night I was having a barbeque at Josh Clarkson's house and I saw a message. So yeah, I wasn't really thinking I was going to play. So I was just here for a little bit of a running tricks holiday. But it was an awesome play. Taking early wickets is the way it goes. So the boys upfront did well and it was a good bowling performance all round from everyone. I had a bit of a long winter in England. So I had a couple of months off. But I'm just enjoying my cricket really. See where it goes. No pressure really for me. I'm just going to get back to the domestic grind, so I'm alright. It's pretty special having them (family) here today. Shout out for them for driving up for me. You never know when your last game is, so, it's pretty special.
England in ODIs post CWC 2023
25 matches
8 wins
17 defeats
W/L: 0.47 (10th among the 12 full-member teams)
They lost six of the seven bilateral series in the timeframe and failed to make it to the semis at the Champions Trophy with three defeats in as many games.
Archer’s four maidens today are the second-most for an England bowler in an ODI post the 2008 home summer. Chris Woakes (4/18) had bowled five against Sri Lanka in Chester-le-Street in 2021.
STAT: New Zealand's last bilateral ODI series win over England was in 2013 (away). The last series win against England at home was in 2008.
19:56 Local Time, 06:56 GMT, 12:26 IST: Mitchell and Santner have seen it through for the hosts. When they were five down, it seemed England had a little bit of a window to get back in this game. But Santner was brutal in his short stay and went after the bowlers. That assault acted as a catalyst and the game was done with plenty of overs to spare. England would feel they left a lot of runs like in the first game and that was the cause of the downfall. Archer bowled with fire and picked up three wickets. But the others weren't that good and the defence was never convincing. England batters should be more disappointed though as the onus was on them to get more runs while batting first in both the games. Blair Tickner was the pick of the bowlers as he picked up four wickets and led the way for the hosts. England batters continued with their template of going after the bowling and were bowled out by the 36th over.

Brydon Carse to Santner, FOUR, slower short ball, angled in, Santner waits on it and whips the pull away wide of deep square for a four. That was so well played by the southpaw. He seems to be hitting them so well
