Series: The Hundred Mens Competition 2025 Venue: Sophia Gardens, Cardiff Date & Time: Aug 09, 06:00 PM LOCAL
LDN 163/5 (100)
WEF 155/6 (100)
London Spirit won by 8 runs
PLAYER OF THE MATCH
David Warner

A wonderful game of cricket we had. 70 percent of the game was dominated by the London Spirit unit but Bairstow's innings was so impactful that he almost stole it from the Spirit's cabinet. But the Welsh Fire will be disappointed majorly because of the collapse they had in the first half of the chase. None of the batters looked to get used to the pace of the wicket. Bairstow did, so did Chris Green and they did find ways to score on that. More learnings for other teams as well as the Hundred and its action is relentless. We will relent for the moment and will be back soon with more cricketing action. Bye bye for now...

David Warner, Player of the Match: They got very close. Credit to the way Bairstow batted. They entertained the crowd. It skidded but was slow. We executed as well we could do. Jonny was on fire. When you out there, there are sometimes 5 balls and 10 balls after which you rotate the strike. The crowd has been lovely. We have two away games. We are an energetic bunch.

21:02 Local Time, 20:02 GMT, 01:32 IST: The London Spirit have taken the points here. Bairstow tried really hard but even his herculean effort was never enough. The Welsh Fire were 55 for 6 in a chase of 164 and it seemed the game was heading for an early finish. But Bairstow was joined by Chris Green and together they took their time and started the surge towards the end. In the end, they fell short by 8 runs. Earlier, the London unit were helped by Warner's efforts and a few cameos in the middle. They got to an above par total and that has helped them in defending it as the Welsh Fire got too close for comfort in the end. But the London Spirit will happily take their first points where as the Welsh Fire unit are still in search for their first win.

Wood to Bairstow, no run, The Spirit win by 8 runs. Was a length ball at the batter. Flayed back to the bowler. Bairstow and Chris Green tried hard but too much was left to be done in too little time. The game was so close towards the end. Excellent calm over from Wood as he bowled to his field

99

Wood to Bairstow, SIX, 100 up for the duo! That is a long long hit. Was banged in short, Bairstow pulled it hard and long over deep mid. They need 9 more off the final ball

98

Wood to Bairstow, 2 runs, flogs the short ball down to deep square. But they get only a brace. 15 off 2 is almost impossible. London Spirit would be happy

94

Jamie Overton to Chris Green, no run, and that slams into the back of the helmet. Was a quick short ball and Green was late on it. The physio runs in there. 92

Jamie Overton to Bairstow, SIX, straight down the ground for a sixer. Whatta hit. Backs away, gets under the ball and launches that into the sight screen. Such a stable base. Such a powerful frame. Bairstow has turned on the beast mode here. 19 off 8 looks far more gettable now
