Batsman Abhishek Reddy, who missed the 2016-17 season after suffering a career-threatening anterior cruciate ligament injury during the 2016 KPL, was named in the 16-member state Ranji Trophy squad for their opener against Assam, starting October 14 in Mysuru.

Wicketkeeper-batsman Sharath Srinivas is the only new face in the squad that will be captained by R Vinay Kumar.
Reddy marked his return from injury with an unbeaten 201 for President's XI in the Safi Darashah tournament in July and followed it up with another ton for KSCA XI in the Dr Thimmappaiah All-India tournament.
Karnataka will be without KL Rahul, Manish Pandey and Karun Nair. Rahul and Pandey are part of the India team for the T20 series against Australia while Nair will play the tour match for Board President's XI against the visiting New Zealand side.
With India playing hosts to New Zealand followed by Sri Lanka, Karnataka are set to lose the services of Rahul and Pandey for a longer period. Nair too is likely to miss a few matches as he is on the national selectors' radar.
