When Suzie Bates, the New Zealand skipper, makes her way to the middle for the toss against South Africa in their second game of the tournament in Derby on Wednesday (June 28) at the ICC Women's World Cup, history will be made. She will become only the eighth New Zealand woman to feature in 100 One-Day Internationals joining the elite group that includes the likes of Debbie Hockley, Sara McGlashan and Haidee Tiffin.

Bates, though, doesn't have to look to that record for inspiration having already made a stellar start to the tournament, scoring a century in New Zealand's tournament opener against Sri Lanka. Bates, who is placed third for the most number of ODI centuries, would have been more than pleased with the clinical outing that her side had to kick-off their World Cup on an unblemished note.
