Live Cricket Score: India vs Bangladesh, ICC Champions Trophy 2017 Warm-up Match 6
Here's what the captains had to say:
Virat: Last game as well, the bowlers did a fantastic job. As soon as the cloud cover came, it becomes increasingly difficult for the batsmen. We back Kedhar and Hardik to do it for us down the order. Jadeja also played with composure. All bases are covered. We have ticked all the boxes going into the tournament.
Shakib: Everything went wrong. We just tried too many things. Before this game the batters had a good time. We cannot control the weather. We have to do better.
THAT'S THAT! India win by 240 runs.
On the face of it, India will be extremely pleased with the way their outing against Bangladesh panned out in the ICC Champions Trophy warm-up clash at the Kennington Oval. They have every right to feel so - their main batsmen weren't required - the likes of Dinesh Karthik, Hardik Pandya and Shikhar Dhawan had a good outing and they were able to test themselves in slightly demanding conditions under the overcast skies of London. Most boxes were ticked on the batting front as well as on the bowling front but the selection conundrum continued ahead of the clash against Pakistan on June 4.
Yuvraj Singh (fitness permitting) should walk in into the playing XI but Karthik presented a strong case for himself. And then there's more - play both R Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja or persist with Pandya and drop one spinner is something the think-tank will have a tough time to decide. And if they do decide to play both spinners and persist with Pandya, which pacer - Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Jasprit Bumrah, Umesh Yadav or Mohammed Shami - to drop?
Coming back to the game, Karthik's 94 off 77 before retiring out, a 67-ball 60 and a belligerent 80 off 54 from Hardik Pandya helped them post 324 for 7 after being asked to bat. The bowlers then came up with a clinical show to complete a 240-run win as Bangladesh folded for just 84.
Rohit Sharma was undone in the second over when he chopped back a wide one back onto the stumps off Rubel Hussain. Anjinkya Rahane looked promising during his short stay and played some fluent drives before he managed to inside edge one back to the stumps.
At 21 for 2, India were presented with an ideal situation where they could test themselves. With the ball doing a bit, they needs a period of watchful play from their batsmen. Dhawan and Karthik did just that as they started the resurrection job. Content with hard earned singles and couples, an odd boundary here and there, they settled in to ease the nerves in the dressing room. However, it wasn't long before they achieved a satisfying fluency and started maneuvering the bowling with ease.
The 100-run stand between these two had put India in a comfortable position but Dhawan fell, caught at midwicket, trying to loft Sunzamul Islam over the in field. Kedar Jadhav and Karthik then gave the innings the much-needed impetus in the middle overs with a dominating 75-run stand in the next ten overs.
Jadhav was bowled by Islam before Karthik retired out after 35 overs leaving the platform perfectly placed for the finishers in the team to do their job. With Yuvraj still struggling to reach full fitness, the think-tank has had enough assurance from Karthik that they have an able replacement to take his spot.
The management will also be pleased with the way Pandya went about his innings. Sent in with 15 overs to go and given a chance to build an innings, he did some serious damage and did well to exploit Bangladesh's struggle at the death.
Bangladesh, on the other hand, will also be touch disappointed with the way their seamers failed to make use of the conditions presented to them early on. India lost just two wickets and were comfortably able to rebuild after that as they pacers lacked the penetration needed to rattle the Indian batting line-up.
With a steep chase ahead of them, the batting, sans Tamim Iqbal for this game, crumbled leaving plenty of issues for them. Soon into the chase, they were reduced to 25 for 6 with Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Umesh Yadav picking three wickets apiece. With the ball doing just enough, the top order was found wanting and had little answers. It also left a big question mark over their technique to tackle such conditions.
Mushfiqur Rahim resisted for 18 deliveries before he was dismissed by Shami in the 13th over, leaving their chase in disarray and Bangladesh at 47 for 7. After the early slump the result was a forgone conclusion leaving the two teams with different headaches. India have a problem of plenty while Bangladesh will need to bounce back from a moral-sapping defeat to be in the right frame of mind in the clash against England on June 1.
Brief scores: India 324/7 in 50 overs (Dinesh Karthik 94, Hardik Pandya 80*, Shikhar Dhawan 60) vs Bangladesh 84/10 in 23.5 overs (Bhuvneshwar Kumar 3-13, Umesh Yadav 3-16) by 240 runs.
WICKET! Short and wide outside off from Bumrah, Mehdi flashes at that one and edges it to the keeper. Bangladesh 77 for 8.
Mushfiqur falls! Length ball outside off, he cuts that one and the ball flies to point where Jadeja takes a low catch. Bangladesh 47 for 7.
SIX DOWN FOR 22. Yes, SIX DOWN. Length ball and moves away just a touch. Mosaddek Hossain is forced to play at that one, gets an outside edge and easy catch for Karthik.
