The contrast can't be any starker. On one side, Mumbai, the defending champions, had been battered and batted out of the contest. Having made it a habit of winning Ranji Trophy titles, the players, who for generations knew only what it feels to lift the title, were on their haunches having lost one.
Ranji Trophy 2016-17 Final, Mumbai vs Gujarat, Day 5 - Live blog

And then there is Gujarat. Players and support staff running onto the field with child-like enthusiasm. Parthiv Patel (143) and Manprit Juneja (54) helped their side chase down 312, the highest successful chase in the final, and win the 2016-17 edition by five wickets at the Holkar Stadium in Indore on Saturday (January 14).
Parthiv Patel: "It is a fantastic feeling. Winning Ranji Trophy for Gujarat was always a dream and scoring a hundred in the final is unbelievable. Very happy the way we played. I don't know about that (when asked if there will be a statue of his in Ahmedabad). I'm blessed to have a good and young team. Happy to end up on a winning note. It was a collective dream that we saw before the season. It was a dream which started in Gujarat. I was taking my chances, I am glad it all came off. You can't get 311 alone and Manpreet played brilliantly. Priyank Panchal got a crucial 30 yesterday to give us the moment. RP always looked like picking wickets. He has put in the hard yards with the boys. I am very fortunate a talented bunch of young boys. The support staff has been working very hard for us. The Gujarat Crciket Association has also backed us, I would want to take this opportunity to thank them."
Axar Patel: "We played as a team, that's how we gothere. I backed up the players and tried to motivate them."
Chintan Gaja: "I got support from all the players and the support staff. That's how I got my confidence and that helped me perform well."
Manpreet Juneja: "They like to sledge and that's how they play. I wanted to give them back back by stopping their momentum. I love pressure and I like to perform under pressure. Happy that I was able to contribute to my team."
Aditya Tare: Yes well he did. He rode his luck a bit. We have ourselves to blame. The way we batted in the first innings, it could have been better. I am really proud of the team, the support staff, the selectors. It has been a great journey. We should have put more value on our wickets on day 1, especially on day 1. We played some silly shoits and some silly decisions cost us the game. I am very proud of the bowling unit, the way they bowled.
The captain is gone. Short ball and he looks to pull it, doesn't get hold of it, Thakur completes an easy catch. Can Mumbai fight back? Too late one would imagine but you never know. Intense, gripping stuff here. Tension all around.
