The 2015 Indian Premier League (IPL) auction raised a few eyebrows when a cricketer, largely unknown in the domestic circles, was snapped up for a whooping sum of Rs. 2.4 Crore by the Kolkata Knight Riders. This started the journey of Konganda Charamanna Cariappa, earlier a tennis-ball cricketer who took up leather-ball cricket only by chance. He has now become a trend-setter, underlining the obscurity to riches stories that Karbonn Karnataka Premier League (KPL), powered by Cycle Pure Agarbathies, has supplied quite so often in recent years.
When KKR's video analyst AR Srikanth noticed the mystery element that Cariappa possessed while plying his trade with Bijapur Bulls in the KPL, he was quick to let his team management know. What followed was an invitation to bowl in the Knight Riders' practice camps during the Champions League T20 in 2014. Cariappa, who managed to impress Gautam Gambhir, Jacques Kallis and Wasim Akram, bagged himself a lucrative IPL deal a few months down the line.
