Persistent rain meant that no play was was possible on Day 1 of the first Test between Sri Lanka and Pakistan at the Galle International Stadium. The sun was out in the morning on Day 2 and the groundstaff were busy trying to clear the water puddles. However, the covers were back on as a steady drizzle started to set in, which meant that the toss, which was to take place at 9:15 local time, was delayed again.

The sun was shining brightly, the blue skies were out and the groundsmen were doing an excellent job as they got the covers off and were working hard to get the ground ready for play. While an inspection was due, Russel Arnold, who had a look at the pitch, said there was an even covering of grass on it. He said it was a dry pitch and a bit of uneven bounce may come into play.
