Ranji Trophy: Shivam Mavi picks seven; fifers for Akash Deep, Shahbaz Ahmed

Best batting performances

CR Gnaneshwar's unbeaten 87 keeps Andhra afloat against Nagaland, who amassed 366 in the first innings. Andhra's riposte was a touch shaky but opener Abhishek Reddy and middle-order batter Karan Shinde scored a fifty each before Gnaneshwar further narrowed the deficit. He's 13 away from a century while Andhra finished Day 2 99 runs in arrears with five wickets in hand.

Opening batter Rohan Kunnummal smashed a 154-ball 132* - an innings laced with 13 fours and 5 sixes, to lead Kerala's strong reply to Goa's 355. Kerala finished Day 2 on 237/2.

Saurashtra opener Harvik Desai piled on the runs and misery on chandigarh as he carried on from an overnight score of 80 to finish unbeaten on 200 when his team declared at 453/3. Jay Gohil and Arpit Vasavada were among the runs too, scoring 98 and 96 respectively.

Gujarat captain Manan Hingrajia carried on from his Day 1 score of 98 and went on to score 150 as his team finished on 352. In response, the trio of Sridam Paul (69), Hanuma Vihari (40*) and Vijay Shankar (51*) have held Tripura in good stead, taking them to 208/3 at the end of Day 2.

After the efforts of Akash Deep and Shahbaz Ahmed (mentioned below), Bengal fortified their position in the game against Haryana as Abhimanyu Easwaran and Sudip Gharami hit fifties. Bengal ended Day 2 with a lead of 248 runs.

Day 2 action saw another double centurion in Uttarakhand captain Kunal Chandela, who carried on from Day 1 tally of 128 to finish on 207. He declared his team's innings on 460/7.

After Anshul Gupta's century on Day 1, Railways were fuelled by the middle-order triumvirate of Rajat Paliwal (41), Devender Lochab (40) and Nakul Sharma (89) to finish with a first-innings score of 343.

After a solid bowling performance on Day 1, Puducherry were buoyed on Day 2 by the batters as captain Neyan Shyam Kangayan and middle-order batter Aman Khan scored tons. Their efforts pushed Puducherry to 349 in the first innings, responding to Rajasthan's paltry 168.

A captain's effort from Siddhesh Lad (102*), flanked by half-centuries from Musheer Khan and Suved Parkar, helped Mumbai go past Delhi's 221 and finish Day 2 on 266/5. It was the fifth century of the season for Lad, the joint most by a Mumbai batter.

Hyderabad put out a strong batting show on Day 2 against Chhattisgarh as Aman Rao and Pragnay Reddy hit fifties while Abhirath Reddy and Kodimela Himateja smashed centuries. At close of play on Day 2, Himateja and Reddy remained unbeaten, with Hyderabad's lead at 132 runs.

Jammu & Kashmir also flew through their middle-order quartet batting long. In response to Himachal Pradesh's 168, J&K finished Day 2 on 387/5 as No.3 batter Shubham Pundir slammed 165 while Paras Dogra, Abdul Samad and Kanhaiya Wadhawan hit a fifty each.

Best bowling performances

Shivam Mavi pulled things back for Uttar Pradesh on Day 2 against Vidarbha as his seven-wicket haul meant the latter finished on the same first-innings total as UP - 237.

Tamil Nadu's 17-year-old spinner Jeganathan Hemchudeshan added three more wickets to his tally on Day 2 to end with figures of 6-120 while Sai Kishore picked the other four against Baroda, who folded for 375 on the basis of Atit Sheth's century.

Kumar Kartikeya's 6-33 helped Madhya Pradesh take a slender first-innings lead despite their batters suffering on Day 1 when they folded for only 187. Kartikeya's efforts meant Maharashtra folded for 179.

Despite KL Rahul's half-century, Karnataka were kept in check in their response to Punjab's 309 as Harpreet Brar returned four wickets, including that of Rahul. Karnataka finished the day at 255/6, still trailing by 54 runs.

In a fast-moving fixture in Rohtak, Akash Deep and Shahbaz Ahmed picked a five-wicket haul each to bundle out Haryana for 100 and gain a crucial 93-run first-innings lead.
