New Zealand's Adam Milne has been ruled out of the T20 World Cup with a torn left hamstring. Milne sustained the injury on January 18, playing for the Sunrisers Eastern Cape in the ongoing SA20. He will be replaced by Kyle Jamieson, who was earlier named a travelling reserve in New Zealand's squad. Another travelling reserve will be named later.
Milne's is the latest among a host of injuries New Zealand have been dealing with. All of Will O'Rourke, Blair Tickner, Nathan Smith and Ben Sears are currently nursing injuries. Meanwhile, Mitchell Santner, Mark Chapman and Matt Henry, who are currently playing in the series against India and are part of New Zealand's World Cup squad, have all also just returned from recent injuries.
Lockie Ferguson, who is a part of the World Cup squad, is recovering from a calf injury and is not a part of the India series. Further, both Ferguson and Henry are expected to miss parts of the World Cup due to paternity leave.
"We're all gutted for Adam. "He'd worked so hard to get himself ready for the tournament and was looking back to his best in his eight games for the Eastern Cape Sunrisers. It's unfortunate timing for Adam and we wish him a speedy recovery," said head coach Rob Walter.
"It's great that Kyle [Jamieson] is already with us here in India. He's an integral member of our pace-bowling group and has hit the ground running on this tour. He's a hard worker with a good set of skills and experiences that will hold him in good stead for the tournament," Walter added on Jamieson's inclusion.
