Prenelan Subrayen and Richard Gleeson snapped three wickets apiece to set the foundation for Joburg Super Kings' 6-wicket win over Durban Super Giants, at Kingsmead, on Tuesday (December 30). Super Giants were bowled out for 86, a total chased down by the visitors with 46 balls to spare, courtesy Rilee Rossouw's 32-ball 43.

Opting to bat on a surface which had ample assistance for the spinners right from the outset, the hosts were pegged back early with Subrayen dismissing the openers, Devon Conway and Kane Williamson, cheaply. Jos Buttler attempted to cut loose with a couple of boundaries early on, but his innings was also cut short by Subrayen in the fifth over, reducing Super Giants to 23 for 3 by the Powerplay.

Evan Jones and Aiden Markram attempted to revive the innings with a steady stand through the middle overs, but with the scoring rate needing an acceleration, Markram holed out to wide long off while attempting to take down Wiaan Mulder.

Any attempts to put up a fight were nipped in the bud in the 16th over, when Gleeson returned for his second over. He dismissed Jones and Simon Harmer and paved the way for the collapse of the lower order as Super Giants were cleaned up with 17 balls still left in the innings.

Even as Super Kings were more watchful against Super Giants' pace attack early on, the start wasn't much better. Eathan Bosch and David Wiese had the openers dismissed, while Simon Harmer had Mulder caught at deep mid wicket, leaving the visitors also reeling at 26 for 3 in the powerplay.

However, the hosts couldn't consolidate that effort through the middle overs with Rossouw taking the attack to the bowlers. He could have been dismissed on 16 in the ninth over, but the fielder at long off dropped a sitter and allowed the ball to sail over the ropes

He then pulled Markram for a boundary and drove Kwena Maphaka for a couple of fours. By the time he was cleaned up by Noor Ahmad in the 12th over, Super Kings were left needing only 13 runs. Donovan Ferreria hammered Bosch for a boundary and a six in the next over to complete the chase.

Brief Scores: Durban Super Giants 86 in 17.1 overs (Aiden Markram 22, Evan Jones 15; Richard Gleeson 3-2, Prenelan Subrayen 3-16) lost to Joburg Super Kings 88/4 in 12.2 overs (Rilee Rossouw 43, Shubham Ranjane 15*; David Wiese 1-15) by 6 wickets.
