On the back of Shayan Jahngir's 99 off 54, Dubai Capitals won a tightly fought contest against Abu Dhabi Knight Riders by nine runs. After being on the backfoot early on in the innings, Jahangir's counter-attack took the Capitals to 196 for 5 before they negated late heroics from Andre Russell (53* off 33) and Jason Holder (22 off 9). This was ADKR's fourth consecutive defeat since they won their opening game of the competition.

Having put the Capitals in to bat, Ajay Kumar and Jason Holder took a wicket apiece in the first three overs to have both the openers dismissed as the Capitals were 4 for 2. The two quick wickets brought in Jahangir and Jordan Cox to the crease. Cox hit the first boundary of the game after 15 deliveries flicking one off the pads for four while Jahangir hit a boundary off the eighth ball in his innings.

After the PowerPlay, Jahangir began a counter-attack as he first hit Liam Livingstone for two boundaries before smashing Ibrar Ahmed for 18 runs in the following over. George Garton too wasn't spared as he conceded 18 runs in the only over he bowled of the match. The experienced West Indian duo of Sunil Narine and Russell put in a couple of quiet overs before the duo brought up the 100-stand. ADKR put on a chance of Cox in the 13th over with Ajay shelling one at deep point but Holder had his man in the following over trapping him LBW, bringing the 116-run partnership to an end.

Jahangir continued to motor along, hitting Ajay for back-to-back boundaries as he moved into the 80s. A six off Narine pushed him to 95 before he was starved off strike for the next two overs. Rovman Powell, who was on 8 off 13 at one stage, hit four massive sixes across the 18th and 19th over as his blistering knock took the Capitals past 180. In the last over, Jahangir couldn't keep out a yorker by Russell to agonisingly fall for 99. A couple of boundaries y Dasun Shanaka took them to 196 for 5.

In reply, Phil Salt began ADKR's riposte with three boundaries in the first two overs. Alex Hales hit David Willey for back-to-back boundaries before nicking one to Jahangir's gloves in the third over. Willey picked up Sherfane Rutherford in his next over before Livingstone was run-out for seven to leave ADKR at 49 for 3 after the PowerPlay. Waqar Salamkheil scalped the dangerous Salt in the tenth over as ADKR fell further down the barrel.

Alishan Sharafu slog-swept Salamkheil for consecutive sixes but the bowler struck at the other end dismissing Brandon McMullen. Mohammad Nabi had Narine bowled to leave ADKR at 100 for 6 after 13 overs. The seventh fell after Willey picked up Sharafu as the game was slowly petering out.

With 74 required off the last five, Russell and Holder hit a six each off Mustafizur Rahman before taking 12 runs off Salamkheil in the 17th over. Holder powered two more sixes before holing out to long-off. Russell got the equation down to 26 off the last over and the first delivery was a no-ball that raced away for four. The next legitimate delivery flew into the stands as the equation came down to 15 off 4. Russell moved to 50 with a boundary to bring it down to 11 off 3. But Muhammad Jawadullah bowled three dots in a row to complete a famous win.
