Mumbai Indians have secured the services of Shardul Thakur ahead of IPL 2026, with the all-rounder traded from Lucknow Super Giants for his existing fee of INR 2 crore. The deal, announced by the IPL on Thursday, confirms what Cricbuzz had reported earlier about discussions between the two franchises.
Thakur, who hails from Mumbai and currently captains the state side in domestic cricket, had gone unsold in the mega auction last year but was later picked up by LSG for INR 2 crore as an injury replacement. He featured in 10 matches, taking 13 wickets while being used largely with the new ball. With the bat, his returns were modest, scoring 18 runs across the season.
The confirmation comes amid a busy trade window, with several franchises exploring pre-auction moves. As Cricbuzz had noted earlier, MI and LSG have also been in talks regarding Arjun Tendulkar, though no announcement has been made on that front yet.
The IPL 2026 retention deadline is approaching, with teams needing to announce their lists by 15 November.
