David Miller, South Africa's T20I skipper, and Gerald Coetzee have both been ruled out of the white-ball matches against Pakistan due to injuries. Miller was set to lead the team in the T20I series but a grade 1 hamstring strain has sidelined him. Coetzee has been ruled out of both the T20Is and the ODIs due to a pectoral muscle injury.

Miller sustained the injury during the build up to the T20I series and subsequent scans ruled him out, with the batter set to begin a phased rehabilitation programme. Coetzee picked up his injury during the one-off T20I against Namibia. He too underwent scans and a specialist consultation, and has commenced a structured rehabilitation programme.

Matthew Breetzke and Tony de Zorzi, uncapped in T20Is, have been added to the South African T20I squad, which will be captained by Donovan Ferreira. The T20I squad will leave for Islamabad on October 23. Ottneil Baartman will replace Coetzee in the ODI squad.

The limited-overs series gets underway at the end of October. Rawalpindi will host the first T20I on October 28, while the last two matches will be played in Lahore on October 31 and November 1. The three ODIs will be played in Faisalabad on November 4, 6 and 8.
