The convincing victory was set up earlier in the day though when Australia's new-ball bowlers Megan Schutt and Ellyse Perry both struck in their respective second over of the morning, and the two legspinners Alana King and Amanda Jade-Wellignton made an impact in their opening overs itself to leave Pakistan reeling at 44 for 4 inside 13 overs. Put in to bat first, Pakistan had their hopes pinned on their skipper Bismah Maroof and Aliya Riaz who resurrected the innings through their fighting 99-run partnership for the sixth wicket.
