In a nut-shell

It came down to AB de Villiers having to score 13 off the final over to keep Royal Challengers Bangalore's hopes of a top-two finish alive but Bhuvneshwar Kumar produced a near-perfect over, giving away just eight as Sunrisers Hyderabad defended 141 on a slow Abu Dhabi wicket for only their third win of the season.

What does it mean in the race to the playoffs?

That Delhi Capitals and Chennai Super Kings will, in all likelihood, get two shots to make the final and not RCB. CSK's top-two finish is not mathematically guaranteed for RCB can still tie them on points but for them to surpass CSK on NRR will need them to beat DC by 113 runs and hope Punjab Kings beat CSK by the same margin.

The finish

A breezy cameo from Shahbaz Ahmed in the 18th over left RCB needing 18 to win from 12 balls with De Villiers batting at the other end. But Jason Holder, bowling the 19th, dismissed Shahbaz and gave away just five runs. As a delicious bonus, he bowled a dot at De Villiers and had him off strike for the start of the final over.

Bhuvneshwar, bowling that final over, bowled a dot and gave a single to George Garton leaving De Villiers to hit 12 from 4. De Villiers denied a single and followed that up with a six down the ground but couldn't put away two full deliveries that followed.
