India cricketer Suresh Raina was one among 34 people arrested and subsequently released on bail by the Mumbai Police for violating COVID-19 social distancing norms at a club in the city.

After the news of a strain of the coronavirus spreading rapidly in London broke, most countries were on high alert and began to close their borders once again. In lieu of this latest development, the Maharashtra government announced a fresh night curfew - between 11 PM and 6 AM - on Monday (December 21), and the arrest was made in the early hours of Tuesday.

In an official statement issued by the CSK batsman's management, they said that he wasn't aware of the protocols and regretted the 'unintentional' incident.

"Suresh was in Mumbai for a shoot which extended to late hours and was invited by a friend for a quick dinner post the same prior to him taking his flight back to Delhi. He was not aware of the local timings and protocols," the statement read.

"Once pointed out, he (Raina) immediately complied with the procedures laid out by the authorities and regrets the unfortunate and unintentional incident.
