In the midst of a landslide in Sri Lankan cricket, England's tour of Sri Lanka was anything but a contest, particularly given the face-lift that the English team went through after the 2015 World Cup. They picked out their specialists for each format, which meant that there was a larger pool of players specializing in a particular skill set, and they were fresh for every tour, given that there were very few players who played all the formats of the game.

Sri Lanka, on the other hand, have had administrative problems, and poor management, which has reflected in their on-field performance. Unfit players, lack of players, lack of character, and the list goes on. They are on the verge of being called the minnows of world cricket - perhaps inferior to Bangladesh at this point.
