For as troubled as South African batsmen have been against spin, they have put up arguably their best show with the bat so far in the series in the final session on Day 3. Led by Theunis de Bruyn's45*, they have marched on to 139 for 5 at stumps - losing four top order batsmen and a night-watchman. In a 490-run chase, they are out of contention but have still put up a better fight to stretch the game to the fourth day. And in de Bruyn, they have discovered a good player of spin bowling.

Not sure what was the point of sending Keshav Maharaj as the nightwatchman with 25 minutes of play remaining. he is trapped off the first ball. Akila Dananjaya is on a hat-trick, having bagged two wickets off two wrong 'uns.

Faf du Plessis, the most impressive of South Africa's batsman, falls inside edging a ball on to his leg which lobs up to Angelo Mathews at slip. The umpire turns down the appeal but Sri Lanka take a review and overturn it. Big blow!Even as Theunis de Bruyn is looking good in the middle, South Africa are tottering in the chase.

Gripped, turned and bowled. Rangana Herath claims Hashim Amla with a classic left-armer's delivery. Completely beaten. The only saving grace for Amla with this dismissal is that he isn't out bat-pad, caught at forward short leg.

And finally, Dilruwan Perera has dismissed Dean Elgar. And, for a change, the offie hasn't overstepped. THe southpaw hangs around for a while this time to check that, and disappointingly, his work in the series is officially over.

Not for the first time in this innings, Dilruwan Perera has dismissed Dean Elgar off a no ball. Not to forget that he had even dropped the left-hander early on in his innings. Elgar, who had reached the dressing room, is called back. Hashim Amla, who had entered the field, is asked to return. Never seen something like this happen! Sri Lankans can't believe it, and understandably so. Nonetheless, Elgar has a smirk on his face as he is called back.
