Australia's relationship with the T20 format has remained frosty for a long time. Despite being in possession of (arguably) the second-best league, the national team has struggled to find the balance and the tactical smarts at World T20s. By some strange design, they chanced upon a more youthful and dynamic team that can mesh the best of the Big Bash-bred talents and now find themselves climbing up the rankings table even with their ODI fortunes heading the other direction.

Sunday's tri-series final against Pakistan in Harare, which will although not guarantee them the top spot which a lossless campaign would have, should provide a glimpse of Australia's appetite for success in the T2OIs, a format that Australia have accommodated more graciously into their calendar.
