Chamu Chibhabha (above), who got a reprieve courtesy a dropped catch from Martin Guptill while he was yet to get off the mark, put on a 50-run stand for the first wicket with Tino Mawoyo.
New Zealand declared their innings at 166 for 2, leaving Zimbabwe with a target of 387 runs to win the second Test.
After losing two quick wickets in the second innings, Kane Williamson (68 not out) and Ross Taylor (67 not out) put on an unbeaten 140-run stand for the third wicket.
Resuming the innings on 305 for 6, Zimbabwe couldn't keep the New Zealanders at bay for long as they put on only 57 runs on the forth day, for the last four wickets.
Zimbabwe lost three wickets in quick succession at the end of the day as they were reduced to 58 for 3 at Stumps.
